user reviews of Bar Icon, Cardiff

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

this is a smart bar however although off the most busy shopping street in wales being Queen street it is usually very quiet and I now wonder if still open . I can be there at 6pm after work and be the single customer . Can take a while even then to be served. Although polite the barmen sometimes need to realise that serving a customer is more important than finishing a text message .

Disabled access is none existent indeed the half round steps with curved edged are if anything dangerous. The Table directly to the right of the entrance is a nice table to people watch but when windows open if there is another customer there and outside smoking it is a pain . The seats are also over the air con or generator and often vibrates a lot . Toilets are upstairs quite a number of steps . Never eaten here so cannot comment on food , Last few times I have been here gates closed lights off ????? Feel it is under advertised and wonder how it survives .

Terrible bar staff, dirty toilets. They panic if they get a rush on food, telling customers to ''come back and order in about 45 mins''. Basic food, nothing special. The young lads behind the bar could make more of an effort, and actually try and look like they want to be there. Its an ok place to meet, until they whack the music up so loud that you can barely hear. 4/10

Friendly bar staff, but dead most of the week and certainly anytime before 8pm.

Suggest you go to Kings Cross first and maybe try this place around 9ish when it seems to get a bit busier.

Now I have to say "I like this place" Probably only been in here about 3 times, but on my last visit the bar boys were smilling and attentive. Probably had something to with me ordering a bottle of Bolly!(Well was my 50th so...)

In terms of beer, well Im not a fan of Tetleys anything but overall a good kept bar and the most stylish "Gay" bar/pub in Cardiff.

A VERY STYLISH AND FRENDLY BAR ON THE CARDIFF GAY SCENE, WHEN I VISITED IT HAD A VERY MIXED CROWD.
