visited here a couple of times now. decent beer but a little pricey for the area. service is poor though, as if they're doing you a favour... food is also disappointing. comfortable interior with plenty of space and light... so a 6 then.... alehouses - 23 Apr 2008 08:48
Trying too hard to be cool....odd mixture of folks, couples on a first date...the old King Eddies boys reliving their youth...huge and temting menu, but food not special, little details missing and service poor - good beer though. dis - 27 Nov 2006 17:43
Large out of town eatery, but it has the redeeming feature of serving excellent ale. Tim Taylor's Landlord, Lichfield Brewery's latest offering and Adnams bitter. Can't say I like the decor, since when have pubs needed settees and chromium planters? On the whole though a pleasant roomy building with a large outdoor drinking space for those lovely summer evenings..haha. doctorpint - 27 Aug 2006 19:42
My fiancee and I stopped off for a meal on Saturday evening (22/04/06). We ordered tagliatelli with chiorizo and a pint and half of Lichfield ale. Very nice fresh bread with an olive oil dip was provided before the main meal. A waitress delivered the tagliatelli dish and warned us that the plates were very hot. She was right - as was the tagliatelli - it was baked. I regret now that I didn't return it but instead, as I didn't want to make a fuss and we were on our way back home to Birmingham, we ate it. I don't know how the meal had been heated but the pasta was very dry on top but was more moist beneath the 'crusty' surface. The sauce was very rich in tomato - too much so but the mushrooms within it were nicely cooked. I ordered a further two halves of bitter and we finished our meal. Before we could start however I had to ask for a couple of spoons to replace the knives which had been provided! Sadly there was no parmesan cheese. When the waitress asked how the meal was I told her 'very dry and baked'. She said that she was sorry to hear that and walked away. On receiving the bill we were charged for two pints of beer, not a pint and two halves as we should have been - the mistake was rectified. We quickly paid up and left never to venture into the pup again. Needless to say we thought the meal vastly over-priced at £8.95 Geofft - 23 Apr 2006 15:21
I liked the Shoulder of Mutton, we went one Sunday, not many ppl in and we sat in the conservatory, the only ones there! The food was really good, and my starter had all my favourite flavours, I picked well! The main room has lovely big sofas inviting you to plump yourself down and relax, it's a bit more difficult getting up cos some of them are low lol! All in all we had a lovely afternoon with good food reasonably priced 2pops - 11 Aug 2005 20:25
