user reviews of the Railway Tavern, Great Shelford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Rather odd pub. Lots of real ales on draft, choice of at least 5. Pool table, bar billiards table. Thai resturant. Yes its a Thai resturant with superb food and good real ale.

Yes, this is a pub, so therefore the tables are sticky and the looks of the place aren’t great. Their beer selection has improved lately, but there still isn’t too much on the wine front. However, this is not necessarily the place to go just for a few pints (although the landlord and lady are very friendly and welcoming people), this is where you go for authentic Thai food in Cambridge.
The Railway serves by far the best Thai food in Cambridge and it is one of the very few places where you can get original Thai fishcakes, i.e. cooked with the proper ingredients and the right type of fish instead of using potato starch as a substitute. Yes, I am a snob, when it comes to Thai food, which is why I only eat Thai when a) I cook it myself, b) one of my Thai friends cooks it for me or c) I’m at the Railway in Shelford.
My only criticism would be that because it is a pub, their menu is far too small.

Excellent Thai food [9/10 for this] but shabby beer and sticky tables don't do it any favours.
