A fantastic place to go for a truly special meal, the food is excellent, the service is relaxed and friendly, everything is done without fuss or bother, a friend told me that the beer here was not up to much but that must have been in a past life, I'm not a big fan of Green King I.P.A. but it was a real treat here. I can't speak highly enough of this place. Hops_n_Malt - 15 Oct 2007 22:27
Great place to eat, they care about you and what you eat. I had the best liver & bacon I have ever eaten. The atmosphere is just right, special without being false.Good choice of back ground music. All in all a very pleasant experience. Try it, I am sure you will not be disappointed. jenniferc - 4 Aug 2007 20:56
Terrific village pub which retains all that is best and traditional about a proper local. And it is still very much a local too - and judging by the four good old boys playing crib in the bar on a Sunday lunchtime it has thankfully avoided becoming a "destination gastro-pub" for Chelsea tractor driving weekenders. At the same time The Bells is a very good example of a civilised 21st century place that does excellent food. The Sunday lunch option - seven quid for a main course - was brilliant. The beef, locally-sourced, was first-rate and properly cooked. Great service too - hugely refreshing after the complacent and too-often surly and unwelcoming approach of some other places locally. Ten minutes from Bury St Edmunds but beats anything that town can offer by a country mile (or six of them to be precise!) anglia1 - 23 Apr 2007 13:20
great food everything homemade also the chef makes real ale bread the best bread you will ever taste i have always wondered why no one has ever thought of making beer bread what a great idea bread and beer they also have the most wonderful dog called jack he is almost human why are more pubs not as pet friendly as this one i run a hotel in ireland and find it so refreshing that such a pub with great standards is so friendly as they are to pet lovers i think its the irish in them that makes them such a great team neville keegan - abrae@eircom.net - 8 Feb 2007 10:44
Relaxed, warm, great combination of local pub and place to get decent, interesting and well cooked food at wide range of good value prices. Friendly Irish landlord/ lady (he cooks; she runs the restaurant and bar). Love it! castleton - 7 Dec 2006 14:52
