Not bad at all, attractions include: -Great quality beer (if a little bit pricey) -Big screen TV for all matches -Dartboard (back up soon post decoration we hear) -New pool table -Jukebox - much beeter than the naff background tapes -Golf Machine -2 fruit machines -And 2 huge breasts (owned by one of the barmaids) Thank the Lord for the Bricklayers, a decent alternative to the geriatric Greyhound and it's bland, brand approach to management. anonymous - 7 Jan 2007 09:59
Well said Tralfamadorean (previous review). The message here is simple, support these pubs or a dreaded metamorphic process will appear overnight and 'hey-presto' folks, you've got yourself another block of flats or infill housing !! An example being east of the Brick towards Guildford, just over the crossing on your left was the Chester! As for what a pub should be like, quality of ale - not necessarily variety as many beers are just processed bilge water, cleanliness, 'spit and sawdust' bars and grotty toilets belong to yesteryear, inclusive to all, no room any longer for foul mouthed oafs or racist remarks as they too are moving into history rapidly, food should be simple pub grub that's properly cooked, pubs are not restaurants! Finally, and this one is directed at those 'customer service' whingers who expect to be served within the mandatory 10 seconds, Landlords / Landladies are by the very nature of their jobs outward going individuals who generally seek to please but can be (thankfully) slightly idiosyncratic characters when it comes to dealing with the public through the medium of alcohol!! I for one don't wish to be served in a pub by a bar person who is an M & S assistant like equivalent! I've not been in the Brick for several years now so no rating left, will call in soon and update this review. Have a profitable 07. Biker - 1 Jan 2007 10:28
This used to be one of the best pubs in Ash (and I go back to the days whereby an Ash pub crawl ammounted to suicide ..... stretching things just a bit you could take in 17 pubs on foot) shame to hear negative comments about it. I last visited about five years ago and found it to be OK, but with a very young clientel (or perhaps I am getting older ! .... no I have rejected that .... not playing the age game) Anyway we should support these village pubs 'cause a lot are struggling to stay afloat and this seems to be a helpful forum where its relatively easy to discuss touchy and vital subjects such as quality of ale. Just hope that comments remain well intended, and well received. jk Tralfamadorean - 31 Dec 2006 08:52
Not sure who the frustrated song writer is - it needs to get out and get a life! The Bricks has had a new lease of life (even without the beermachine - Blunty). Eileen, Yvonne, Suzie Karen and Brian have the jump in order and the cellar is kept immaculate by the Landlord Ian - Sky Sports is on tap and the HSB and Pride are to die for... Standing for the traditional pub values (Football and Pool teams, juke box, pool table and fruit machines that actually pay out - and a hell of a meat raffle). Parking can be a problem at times but there is a public library car park opposite if you need an overspill (or just park on the road for short-term visits. Spot-on anonymous - 13 Dec 2006 01:57
