I'd heard it was the (unofficial?) Adnams tap but my pint of Jack Brand Mosaic was distinctly average so it was hardly worth deviating from the High Street. Usual suspects on the other handpulls (Ghost Ship, Southwold Bitter, Broadside, Freewheel). Worst pint I had on our day in Southwold last week.

This place has lost all the atmosphere it had the last time I was here due to a god-awful refurb. It's now all light and airy and lacks the character that it had before. The young bar lady wasn't exactly welcoming either. We had just the one each and moved on to the Lord Nelson, where character and friendly staff abound.

The Sole Bay Inn is good enough for me, one of the best pubs in Suffolk. The beer? Perfect. You won't find a better pint of Adnams anywhere, which is as it should be. Those casks don't have to travel far, do they.

Sad to hear of destructive refurbishment, but can only review what is here. Clean and light modern interior with shades of Farrow & Ball, a look which a number of town pubs are seeming to favour. Obviously a fairly broad choice of Adnams ales that are very well-kept, with some of the more experimental brews evident. Busy and friendly with quite a diverse mix of customers. Very pleasant without being outstanding.
