Nice pub, good selection of beers and keenly priced. Food looked good but it was during the football world cup when we visited and, with TV screens all over the place, it looked difficult to find an eating spot where we wouldn't be distracted.
Why do publicans think that all of their customers want to watch football - particularly when they're eating?

and return we did on the occasion of the Beer and Buses weekend, had really good food and Black Gold from Cairngorm Brewery. A great idea especially for those like us who had breakfasted in a hotel was doing half size roast dinners which was still ample

Our experience couldn't have been more different to the last report. Wonderful welcome, superb quality beers including two black beers and convivial atmosphere. This is an island pub to return to.

On entering the inn, we were met by a somewhat rude, arrogant, obnoxious individual, who throughout the course of the evening made us feel extremely unwelcome and at times an inconvenience. In addition, we felt strongly that tourists were not welcome, and that it appeared to be geared towards local residents. After reading the disappointing selection of food on offer, we should have left at this point, but it was late and we were hungry, thus decided to order. We found the food only to be of average standard and our overall thoughts of 'The Old Village Inn' was that it was incredibly pretentious with staff lacking hospitality skills and common courtesy.

Not been here for ages but will try it again when I go over for a holiday next month. The new gaffer used to run the Fat Cat pub in the hotel at Freshwater (which incidentally is now a pale imitation of what it was). This new venture should be interesting as he's interested in beer. The pub has had a refurb and is now called the Old Village Inn Steak and Ale House. I guess it will be more foodie too. Sounds promising.
