Was aware of this pub for ages, cycling past it twice a day along the Hertfor Union Canal. For some reason I thought it would be pretty horrrible, but went in there the other day and was pleasantly surprised. Nice location by the canal and by Victoria Park, friendly staff and a BBQ outside when I was there on a Saturday.

A quality boozer on the edge of Victoria Park, although perhaps not one for people who like rotating guest taps of real ale, or those who are afraid of others who use the F word every other time. I frequent some of the other pubs on there that are regularly (by which I mean more than a dozen times a year) voted in the top 10 on here, and this ranks amongst them. A hidden gem - a rough diamond.

Genuinely an old-style, bona fide east end pub without the nastiness others may have come to expect from this neck of the woods. I was in there today and the landlord (Sean) won one a punt on the feature race at Glorious Goodwood and bought the pub a pint. For a pub of this class, I doubt many can say they have this essence of atmosphere. 10/10

Spent a good day there recently. The landlord was welcoming given that i had my 2 dogs with me. Nice place to sit and relax next to the canal, and have to agree with the previous comments re traditional eastend pub.

I used to work practically next door to this pub and loved the name. Nice in summer to sit in the garden by the canal. Very, very East End, almost felt I should be sitting having a good ol' sing-along 'round the old Joanna I did. And that's not knocking the place - nowt wrong with tradition! Worth a visit for the authenticity
