Brilliant little pub, what a gem! The food is amazing, but expect large portions!
Heard about it in the telegraph, brill review so thought it was worth a look! Just three things to say, great beer, great food, great pub!

Called in, for a few drinks, what I experienced there was horrific, the landlord and his sons were laughing at a young lad who clearly had a medical condition. I could tell the boy wasn't happy, all three, were subjecting the poor lad to some severe intimidation. Not a pub I will be visiting again, appauling.

Great beer, good atmosphere and staff, great food. Cask beer was £2/pint because England were playing (world cup). 4 handpumps - Landlord, "Bouncing Bomb", an Abbeydale and something else.
Food also lovely, beef dinner awesome. Gravy tasted of beef not Oxo. You don’t need a “large” portion. Right next to Howden station. Nice big beer garden with benches. Had marquee up for televisions for world cup. Not the biggest pub in the world.

The food here is really rather wonderful, plentiful portions with much choice and all cooked fresh. If you want the English pub experience I would definately recommend the Barnes Wallis. The beer festivals are always worth going along to with excellent local bands as entertainment. It deserves its recently awarded title of CAMRA's Winter Pub of the Season. 10 stars all round!

Amazing, thats the only word that can be described for the food in this pub! I have just enjoyed a 18 oz steak cooked to perfection, with home made onion rings and home made chips where a delight! A fabulous pint of Rutland Panther topped off a excellent family day out, with my young child enjoying home made chicken goujeans and my other child enjoyed the home made pizza that was on the menu...this is just a fabulous little pub that I would reccomend to ANYONE!!!! that comes near by....what a great pub!
