My mistake, mancunianlass. I must have short changed myself and then reimbursed me without a murmur, but with guilt written all over my face, when challenged. My apologies for having misunderstood the situation so much. standardanswer - 6 Feb 2012 10:18
Re comment below Steve would never short change anyone he can be harsh with idiots but totally honest mancunianlass - 24 Oct 2011 16:38
A great pub serving incredible beer, but unfortunately this gem is fatally flawed by the ignorant thug of a landlord. (Saying that he is an ex policeman explains a lot) Steve is basically an ignorant bully who will insult and intimidate you if your face doesn't fit. If you are not one of the chosen few who he favours then it is also best to check your change before leaving the bar. standardanswer - 23 Jun 2011 16:24
Proper pub! Loved the stuff on the walls, obviously a "proper" collection and not just pub dressing. Especially liked the clock card rack c/w cards. that bought back memories of my apprenticeship days. Popped in for one on the way back from the Crown to the station. Obviously beer was the major draw but we were told that the landlord had a computer and might let us use it to get directions to a couple of pubs back in Manchester. Result! Top bloke, served us a great pint and let us abuse his technology. Can't say if I will ever return, depends if the Mrs goes to see take That again and abandons me in a foreign city. 427scr - 14 Jun 2011 13:30
I've been visiting this pub for around 3 years now. Its tatty, junk-laiden appearance is a good point, not a bad one. The landlord, Steve, can give you a detailed history of almost every object there. The atmosphere is great. You're bound to strike up a conversation with strangers if you sit at the bar. The pub argument is the only game provided. The quality of players in this pub is excellent, so be warned! The beer is excellent: of the possibly 200 different brews I've had in this pub, only three have not been to my taste. And that's the beer's fault, not the landlord's :) Useful details: 2 minutes walk from the Edgely exit of Stockport Train station (walk up the cobbled car park, turn right, and it's on the corner of the next left turn.) 5 ever-changing real ales (mainly pale ales and bitters, very occasionally a stout or a porter). Weston's Old Rosy cider. Fine pork pies. San Miguel, Peroni, Fosters, Guinness. Opening hours: Closed all day Monday. Opens at 5pm on weekdays, 1pm on Sundays (with quiz with prizes at 7pm), and 7pm on Saturdays. Licenced to open until 3am, but the land lord may get bored with you all before then :) rjek - 13 May 2011 16:42
