From the outside, as the photo shows, this appears to be an uninspiring run down street corner pub - it is half boarded up and you might easily be mistaken for thinking it is closed. Inside however is a warm friendly pub serving 4-5 different beers, of which I went for the Facers Flintshire Bitter.

Note the splendid array of pump clips adorning the ceiling, indicating a strong commitment to real ale.

The pub can easily be accessed from the rear exit of Stockport Station.

I found out the hard way that the pub does not open at lunchtimes, so bear this in mind.

( memo to self - pay more attention in future to previous BITE reviews, Good Beer Guide descriptions etc !)

Cracking little pub with a real enthusiasm for their beer, 4/5(?) handpumps incl Millstone’s Three Shires in fantastic condition on my last visit.
Pub looks closed down from the outside and only opens evenings (from 17:00 most days) but worth a detour for selection and condition of ales. Down to earth atmos but you have to mind your language and, even if I’ve had a reminder on that score, that’s no bad thing!

Classic traditional town pub, very welcoming even though I looked out of place in my suit. Micro Golden beer not to my taste but this was I think not a reflection on pub cellarmanship. Wonderful.

Any idea what time this opens on a Saturday? We're coming for the football and want somewhere decent that opens at 11 before we go to the Crown.

DO NOT let it's appearence fool you. This is one of the best pubs in Stockport and much frequented by the local CAMRA branch. If you go for atmosphere, friendliness and excellent stewardship then this is your kind of place. If you want to pose and drink overpriced continental cat p**s, please go elsewhere and leave us serious drinkers alone.
