| Live band on Saturday night, usually good, varied music. Efficient barstaff even when busy. Good atmosphere, varied aged of clientele. Sport showing on large screens. cdo - 1 Aug 2009 22:26 |
| It's criminal that this pub and Crayford are dripping in history and most people don't know it. There was an outcry years ago when this pub changed it's name to The Orange Kipper. This pub should be an old fashioned family pub selling good food, real ale and lots of character. Instead it's a shell of a pub. Although you only have to look around the town to see what people think of Crayford and it's history. If loud live rock music, live football on big screens and lager with zero atmosphere is your bag...You'll love this place. It's probably the best pub venue for the areas amateur bands. You have to ask yourself what it is you look for in a pub. If you're looking for good beer, friendly people in a nice old fashioned pub...'The Bear' is not for you. tequilaboy - 5 Feb 2009 16:39 |
| A fairly large but unremarkable, bottom end of the market pub complete with prerequisite football on big screen, multiple TVs, a double dose of pool table and banks of fruit machines rounded off with “fackin’ ‘ell” social commentary and Green King beers in such a disturbingly awful state that you wouldn’t even use it to kill off the slugs in the garden. The sign outside proclaiming it as Kent’s No 1 music venue is well wide of the mark and the photos on the walls near the stage showing the likes of Slade, T.Rex, Joe Cocker and Brian May are more for decorative puprposes than an example of the calibre of artist who you will find here on a Saturday night. The open interior is very plain and whilst it is certainly spacious, it presents little in the way of intimacy so if you prefer to shrink into the background away from the inane ramblings of group mentality geezers, best to avoid. | OK for watching football (loads of good-quality screens), but wouldnt want to hang about otherwise: a raucous, slightly rough, barn of a place. mozzzzzz - 24 Mar 2008 11:14 |
| Used to frequent this joint often, went through the orange kipper name change and then back again. Whilst close to the dog track for which it was handy, the pub has a slightly aggresive atmoshphere, with the chav brigade of Crayford that try to large it there. As for the music, its just the wrong venue because the stage is in the main drinking/eating area, and just kills what little ambience that there is. Staff are empty heads too. Avoid this pub, better off with a four pack and bag of nuts indoors. anonymous - 11 Dec 2006 11:15 |
