| always quality! juninhocrunch - 10 Jan 2012 11:17 |
| Doesn't open till 7pm on a sat evening though am sure it has it's reasons. Pleasant enough pub with friendly bloke behind the bar and a selection of ales. Tried a pint of Thornhill's White Swan which is a very pale and light ale. Went down well enough though. The best pub in the vicinity of the station for ale. Snarling_Mallard - 10 Jul 2011 12:59 |
| I happened on this place by accident as it was nearest to the bus stop where I dropped off from Buxton. York, Phoenix, Whim - and the Townhouse whose session beer was superb. Basic fodder at reasonable prices. Lots of interesting conversations - I thought I'd landed in an Episode of Early Doors which was great!! Must plan more bus trips to end here! | I've already reviewed this, but it's a great pub with a really clued up landlord who loves having good ales on, great all year rounder with a big roaring fire in the colder months, if you want a fun-pub with fizzy lager pop go elsewhere. Mind yer language though too. ToxtethOGrady - 22 Apr 2011 23:36 |
| WATERS GREEN TAVERN, MACCLESFIELD This seems a friendly and pleasant enough place. Though, due to the nature of the day, I was anti-social and grabbed the seat nearest the fire for warmth ! And the very fact there was a real fire burning is a plus point in itself. The most unusual feature of the pub is the fact that the bar is along an outside wall. It’s immediately on the left as you come in the door – it’s possible for the landlady to hide in the corner and not be seen when you come in !! There are two main drinking areas straight ahead, and to the right (with fire). Pleasant enough iwth red upholstered benches and chairs arranged around tables, but otherwise the decor is nothing to write home about. But then, the main point of coming here is for the BEER ! When I was there, there were 5 beers on tap (but another 3 pumps available as well), including two from Phoenix Brewery and two from Barnsley / Oakwell. I had the Phoenix Monkeytown Mild – which was excellent. I understand that the pub does food at lunchtimes, though there was no sign of it when I was there at 2.30pm. Pub is ideally situated for us transport enthusiasts as it is halfway between the bus and rail stations (which are only 100 yards apart). I certainly intend to go back – though since it’s 25 years since I was last in Macclesfield, I’m not sure when that will be ! Martinsh - 21 Jan 2011 23:30 |
