Sorry to see no reviews for more than a year. Let's put that right. We were on holiday in the Isle of Wight, staying in Freshwater, and took BITE users' recommendations to try out this pub. We found a landlady and landlord who took an instant and genuine interest in new faces and a friendly and witty clientele. They don't do food anymore, but the local Mews beer was in superb condition. The Isle of Wight is riddled with so-called pubs which are really restaurants in all but name. So what a relief to come across a genuine drinkers' pub. They have removed Guinness because of the soaring wholesale prices. We are sure it won't be missed, and there are plenty of other good stouts on the market. Let's hope for the sake of Freshwater residents that the long-serving licensees are around for a good while yet.

Recently visited this pub. Very friendly landlord and landlady. Warm and inviting atmosphere with a traditional juke box to keep us entertained. Good selection of real ale and strong lager at very reasonable prices. Pool and darts available and football on TV (especially if you support Derby County).
We popped in one afternoon and were made to feel so welcome that we went back the following evening. We caught a bus from Yarmouth to freshwater and the landlady ran us back to our holiday house. That's service beyond the call of duty!!
Anyone wanting a traditional pub this is the place for you.

Soon to be my local. OK, it's tired and need of a paint job, but in it's favour, it's still a local even if it does whiff of baccy and damp labradors. The landlord and his wife are fine hosts and always up for a chat to make you feel welcome. Let's hope it stays a pub for many years to come, and that the planning permission to develop residential units on the site is not activated.

Went walking around IOW for the weekend, and stopped here for a beer one night. Great and friendly local pub, with lots of character. While everyone else in the pub appeared to be local, we were made to feel very welcome. Great selection of real ale, including the local Yates beer and Greene King mild. Decor is dated and tired, but actually adds to the character of the place. Overall, 8/10.

Really friendly pub and locals. I popped in on the offchance they did food, only to find Green King MILD on tap - what did i do? - i drank a swift pint of this lovely MILD whilst the wife and kids were waiting in the car-park, much to the amusement of the landlord

Back on the Isle next year, and will be visiting again

Yes, could do with a little touch-up, but with happy folk and a class MILD, God be praised!
