Great neighbourhood local, prominent location on a corner in a residential road. Nice wood stove burning and a good atmosphere. Choice of ales could be improved with just the two normal Youngs beers Bitter and Special - the latter was on good form tho. Put a few more ales on and it would be a solid 8/10. Very warm welcome from the Barman (not sure if he was the Landlord). Offered water for our dog straight away, and also saved us a fair bit of walking by his advice on easier access to Richmond Park. Good to speak to bar staff who've not only heard of BITE, but are also aware of when and by whom the latest review was made. We'd already had a pint at another pub, so only stayed for one, but could have quite happily sat a while longer. Blackthorn Cider on draught at a decent price. If I'm ever back in that area again, I'd be sure to drop in. Pat_Bateman - 22 Mar 2011 11:10
The beer is in excellent condition. the stained glass windows are beautiful and rare these days. Look out for the hand-pumps; they are original Gaskell and Chambers beer engines. ( You can see the name on the brass-work when your pint is pulled) There are also regular music evenings held here Mancini - 24 Nov 2010 14:11
Great little pub! Popped in after a long walk in Richmond park. Really friendly, lovely landlord, excellent beer - the Special was top notch, they evidently take great care of the pipes. When Richmond is drowning in soulless, over-priced gastropubs, it's a rare thing to find a proper pub - the Mitre is just that: a proper pub, where you can have a great pint and chew the fat. Hard to find but a great place to have a pint. Brian_Duffy - 17 Oct 2010 23:01
This is a Young’s pub with the usual ales on. The Bitter at £2.80 a pint is fair enough, and tasted fine. This seems to me to be a typically unspoilt backstreet boozer, which had a handful of locals in on a weekday afternoon. The handpumps looked to be pretty old – i.e. the small, solid black ones that you seldom see these days. The leaded-light windows are really attractive, featuring stained glass insets depicting various ecclesiastical paraphernalia (including a mitre, of course). This is definitely a locals’ pub, but if you want a decent, quiet pint in an unpretentious backstreet pub, then this is for you. RexRattus - 23 Nov 2008 13:38
