Have to agree with the last few comments, back in town this last week and what has happened to the service in Comptons, very poor, quite unfriendly and very pricey..seemed quite quiet as well...prices have shot up, maybe its part of the new owners aims to give an excuse to straighten it up? A very poor pub in soho now compared to many other places.- Clivers - 5 Sep 2011 17:36
Its not that I object to tipping in bars and when on vacation in the USA I tip very well. However tipping is for good service, well perhaps not good, for Excellent service. A smile, a hello, an attempt to interact with the person you are serving. A major problem in the UK is a lack of service especially in gay bars. Get over yourself. You are not there to preen and ogle the man you fancy whilst ignoring the person you are serving. I discovered this weekend that a particular barman was overcharging me or rather adding 10% of the price and putting this in his tip box. A tip is for me to decide. Unlike the USA where bar staff do not earn the minimum wage you are earning a living. A tip has to be worked for and one offered for good service. At least the little trays for change have gone. Time for some customer service training in this bar. it is not the first time i have had to complain about the bar staff at this venue. drinking is not cheap in London in comparison to Manchester but beer here is very expensive. the place was generally empty in comparison to a few years ago. price or bad service not sure ? A long way to go really. 5/10 echobeach - 22 Aug 2011 13:31
This used to be my favourite gay pub but, sadly, has gone way downhill in last few months. Lager is now £4 per pint and bitter £3.80, and, on my last 2 visits, the bar staff (Sunday lunchtime) were rude and disinterested (which several other customers also commented upon). The friendly regular crowd appear to have deserted it and it was frankly quiet & uninteresting....what a shame! Steve31 - 17 May 2011 16:27
Nice to see the old pub getting back to what it once was with the return of Neil as manager for the new owners. Customer service and bar staff have improved no end recently. Also have a 1am licence at the weekend Clivers - 28 Nov 2010 19:04
