| I had a disastrous experience here yesterday when I took a number of colleagues for a drink and lunch to celebrate my birthday. There were long delays in getting served and the barmaid was appalling and got a lot of drinks wrong. For example she didn't know what a spritzer was and gave us Guinness when we asked for Heineken. She messed up our food order and my own lunch went cold while I tried to sort it out. The barman was rude when I initially asked about the food error - he said 'nothing to do with me - SHE took your order'. I spent a lot of money in there yesterday but rest assured will not be going back, nor will my colleagues, which is a shame as we work so nearby. helbron - 22 Jan 2010 11:48 |
| I suspect that once upon a time, this was a nice old fashioned boozer. Not anymore. It was another trying to look old but isn't type pub. There was absolutely no atmosphere in the place as most people seemed to be standing out on the pavement having a smoke. The bar staff were shoddy (over charging for a round) and rude (finish your beers now or I will take them away) at closing time. Even with an interesting selection of ales, this is one to avoid. | 5 ales on all brown and all ubiquitous stuff you can get anywhere like Fuller's LP, Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen. Music was far too loud for easy conversation and one wonders if this is another pub where the staff count themselves above the punters. Not Good. bedfont - 13 Sep 2009 17:25 |
| Decent enough inoffensive pub on the Euston Road side of Great Portland Street tube Station. Similar beers as mentioned by Strongers below and the Pride and OSH were OK. But have to agree with Strongers final sentiment below. As it was a decent summers evening we took our beers outside onto the pavement, but the Green Man’s location on a busy road junction doesn’t make it ideal for alfresco drinking and it wasn’t long before we moved on to the nearby Masons Arms which is more suited for that sort of thing. | Being opposite Great Portland Street Station, this pub is more of a meeting place than a final destination. Broadside, Pride, Morrissey Ale and Greene King IPA were all available on my visit, but the Old Speckled Hen was off. There is also a selection of standard lagers, but I stuck to the Pride which was nice enough. Half of the pub is stand up drinking with a few high tables and the rest is on a small raised level with tables and chairs set out for eating the pub fare. I found the staff to be pleasant enough, but there were a couple large groups of lads that I was glad that I didn’t bump into later in the night. As mentioned, ok for a quick stop off before finding somewhere a little more interesting. Strongers - 10 Jun 2009 06:59 |
