Incredible selection of beer, good staff. Great selection of bottled beer also - defo worth a visit if you're passing through Sheffield station.
No sign of food but not a disaster as the place is top notch.

It's certainly got a fulsome range of beer & an extremely historic interior. However, the main two seating areas (we just stayed in the main bar) are VERY bright

Last stop after the game following the mighty U's 2-2 with the Millers. Excellent boozer, I had the laconically named "Ale" which went down a treat, and quickly as we didn't have long before the train went. Pretty crowded with bouncers on the door and no football colours but they were friendly and didn't stop any of our fellow fans with U's shirts on though they were asked to zip their coats up. Fantastic station pub with a superb range of ales. 7.5/10

A little bit special. I was lucky enough to visit on Bonfire Night when there was a full on party going on outside, with a band playing and barely an empty stool in the house. Everyone was having fun and it was a pleasure to share their company for an hour or so. A real community asset.

Another visit with some friends who were just as impressed as I have always been. I did try the pork pies this time and they do indeed take some beating! This has to be one of the best pubs around.

One of my favourites and one that we always visit when in town for football. Great beer from the nearby Kelham Island Brewery; hearty pub grub and a super cosy atmosphere where good banter is the order of the day! It is also great as part of a little pub crawl in the Shalesmoor/Kelham Island area (try The Kelham Island Tavern and The Wellington and note the fine architecture at The Ship).
The Fat Cat is high on my "best pubs" list.

Perhaps less lively than the Fat Cat around the corner, but the ale seclection was top notch. I don't think I've seen so much choice in such a small pub. A visit ought to be compulsory if you're in the area.

Boarded the train at St Pancras one Sunday morning, alighted at Sheffield, walked to the Kelham Island Tavern, ordered a pint of Pale Rider as brewed next door, how could it get better? £5 for a plate of lovely freshly cooked roast which came out to a busy enough pub within 10 minutes, that's how. Outstanding little pub. Thanks Mike!

Absolutely terrific pub - definitely in my "best pubs" top ten. You just have to go and see for yourself!
Spooky fact - The Kelham Island Tavern in Sheffield/The Wellington in Hull and The Nags Head in Reading - all great real ale pubs and all in Russell Street!!

Last pub before heading off and arriving late at the New York stadium to see the mighty U's grab a 95th minute equaliser. New scratch for me and an pretty impressed with the beer range - I really must write them down as after 4 or 5 at lunchtime it's difficult to remember what I had, but they were definitely Brew Company, and like the other pubs we visited in Sheffield all excellent. 7.5/10

After a couple of pints in The Fat Cat the five of us made the short journey to The Harlequin having never been before. It is a spacious split-level pub with good amenities but.... we just did not like the beer (Brew Company) so sadly we left them and headed off to the Kelham Island Tavern. I will try this pub again as it does get some good reviews and perhaps a different beer? Sorry guys!

This pub goes from strength to strength. The Shakespeare may have deservedly won pub of the year but this place must have pushed it close. I would say beer quality better here, there is some strong quality control going on. Great staff, great landlady, and very reasonable prices. But they also have some fancy craft beers too, always undercutting the likes of the tap and dada. This is pretty much my idea of the perfect pub. 11/10

Decent enough Wetherspoons - most cask ales were a bit on the strong side, but Ruddles was great value at £1.85!

I must disagree with the comments of realalerules83, if he has an objection to draft (?) he should go to a bottles only establishment. Also if beer offerings 'was' paltry surely that infers to one beer only, as opposed to beers in the plural. However you don't need good grammar to appreciate good ale and I have never had a bad pint in this pub no matter how I asked for it.

Not a bad 'spoons but as it is very close to several other real ale pubs we only had a swift one to say we had been in! As has been said - if this bar was in any other town apart from Sheffield then it would be brilliant!

Sheffield police recently reported a fall in crime in the city centre. Asked how they had achieved this, the Chief of South Yorkshire Police replied that they had deployed a system of isolating hot spots of criminal activity and had arrested everyone in the Bankers Draft.
