Another of my "must visit" pubs when in Sheffield. Superb range of beers with Acorn and Farmers usually always available plus guests ales from all over the place. They do food but I always like a pub which has a basket of cheese or ham rolls throughout the day. It has - quite rightly - won many awards from CAMRA and you really cannot go to Sheffield without popping ion for a pint or two. Just round the corner from the Fat Cat and a short walk from Shalesmoor tram. Highly recommended.

Its amazing to find such a wonderful, neat & tidy pub in an industrial area. The striking, well kept exterior is in contrast to the starkness of the surrounding area. Inside there is a cosy single room with a bar at the rear. As you would expect its about as traditional as you can get & more real ales than you can shake a stick at. To the rear is a conservatory which has a strange, part oriental theme along with many framed awards the pub has won. My only gripe, which I found irritating was the constant short pint measures. This happened on every drink I ordered & I noticed a few other short measures. The barman never bothered to leave the pints to settle before serving. I would have expected better from a pub with such a reputation.

Yes, it's a nice enough pub, yes the beer is good (a pint of Derby Triple Hop on this occassion) but the place was more like a CAMRA social club with talk and discussion limited to beer and breweries rather than a livng, breathing local pub.

A "must visit" when in Sheffield. Super little bar which is always lively and friendly. Good beers (Kelham Island always on of course but guest ales usually available as well). Some nice old breweria. We have had very good food here before but didn't eat this time round. Just a short walk from Shalesmoor tram stop - past some of Sheffield's old industrial sites and some new flats. Then,of course, it's just round the corner to The Kelham Island Tavern - we were spoilt for choice !!

If you are visiting The Kelham Island Tavern then without doubt you are going to visit The Fat Cat. Out of the 2 of them this is the one I preferred. This pub is the brewery tap for The Kelham Island Brewery next door & as such a pint of Pale Rider or Easy Rider is essential. Inside its traditional & unspoilt. The bar is ridiculously tiny so luckily you can get served from a hatch in the corridor. The main lounge is cosy with an open fire & plenty of memorabilia on the walls. We had sandwiches on our visit which were excellent value. All the staff were friendly & nothing seemed too much trouble. On top of that look out for the pub cat, a friendly tortie called Steffi, who by the way isn't a fat cat :-)

More of a pub than the place round the corner. Tried another Derby brew which was good and one of the pork pies which were reet nice. Has a seperate public bar and snug seating areas to the left as you go in. Busy and bustling on this visit (and more varied conversation than just beer and breweries).

A great addition to Sheffield's already excellent real ale scene and just the place for a pint before or after (or instead of) your train! One long bar, but with seating rooms off. Thornbridge beers are always available and the Kipling was superb on this visit. The other pumps appear to be reserved for their "brewer of the month" - in this instance it was Saltaire Brewery but Hardknott and Marble were next up. We were told that the room used to be the First Class Refreshment Rooms and we thought they were still "first class". Only addition I would make (and I'm not going to make an fuss if they don't take it on board) is a descrete TV monitor showing train times - it is just too easy to miss a train with such a beer range available.
p.s. If you are in London try The Euston Tap which is run along the same lines (excuse the pun).

Hectic long bar with fridges containing a vast amount various of bottled beers running the length of it ( at vast prices too - someone payed £6.35 for one while I was at the bar ). It's okay for a station bar but was too manic for my liking - it's never any fun when you have to fight to get served at the bar and the Thornbridge ale though drinkable but was the worse pint of the day.

Lovely place with a great range of Thornbridge ales and plenty of guests (including bottles). Furnishings are very pleasant - give the appearance that they might have been there for decades, even though it's been open less than a year.

Only problem is a shortage of seating - not that you could fit many more tables in. That, and you're not supposed to exit directly onto the platform, so you have to remember to leave enough time to go out and back through the main station entrance before your train leaves!

I don't know why but for some reason I was expecting this place to be a bit dark & dingy inside. I couldn't have been more wrong. Open plan, clean & airy this is a single room boozer on 2 levels. A superb choice of handpumps including their own Harlequin Best Bitter & Harlequin Blonde. However it was their massive selection of mainly American bottled beers that really impressed me - any pub that sells Goose Island IPA is well worth a visit in my opinion.

This was the Manchester Hotel and had a superb Ward's frontage including tiling and leaded windows. It's now all modern. However, it's reliable and recommended for beer, also good sandwiches. The pub is now run by the nearby Brew Company, and their house beers are very good. Bus 53 from town.

Good pub with a large selection of well-kept beers. Sometimes feels a bit overly busy, though that just reflects its popularity. Small yard out back isn't great, particularly with the industrial-strength extractor fan blowing across the tables. But these are minor quibbles; it's basically very good, and makes a fine alternative to the excellent Kelham Island Tavern, Fat Cat and other "Valley of Beer" pubs.

Typical Wetherspoons (I think there are 8 in Sheffield now) - and very good value for breakfast. (Much much cheaper than the optional breakfast at our hotel). Local beers were available as well as the usual suspects (Abbot/Ruddles).

Went in here on a saturday afternoon, it was busy. The staff were helpfull and the real ales very good. There is an upstairs with separate bar & a small patio area up here for smokers.
Large downstairs eating and drinking area, with modern but comfy seating. Apparently this used to be a garage, that had a bar above it, before being aquired by spoons (a bit of info for you)
All in all a nice pleasant place, well worth a visit. Close to city centre and shops and other attractions.

Agree with previous reviewer - decent range of beers (quality of some Harviestoun beer we tried really was up there with the best), reasonable food when considering the price and staff better than many other Wetherspoon pubs.

Certainly superior to the Banker's Draft down the road.

Its the anniversary of the when they signed their 1st deal. They always promised one of the guys at the label they would play there as its his favourite boozer. Apparently this year it happens.

Cracking pub with good ale and friendly staff & locals. I remember the cricket boys. The large one had terrible wind.

The Arctic Monkeys at the Cremorne might sound a bit far fetched, but they do have strong links with the place so might not be too far wide of the month. How come the 30th July..?
