Ive started going to this pub for the live entertainment. Had a couple of meals there too (invariably opting for the delicious steak pie). The atmosphere is friendly and Lee (the landlord) is particularly helpful when Ive phoned to find out what entertainment is on. The pub is warm and clean. Well worth a visit :-).

I actually went into the DC the other Saturday. Same old unfriendly cackers with their card school. Restaurant devoid of punters.

Beer is still fine, though.

You would like to believe that wouldn't you! Can only 'brewery plants' and the Landlord say positive things about the place then ?

I love this place! Not easy for me to get to from where I live, but worth making the trip definitely. Small, cramped, you trip over peoples legs and dogs, get lost round corners, and feel like you're in some other reality, amazing! Give it a try...

Four well picked and quickly rotating ales and quirky interior. Handy for Mr Kyps

Favorite pub in Dorset. Well kept beer. Polite and helpful. Can't recommend it enough.

A brilliant place run by a couple of great guys, Paul & Bill.
We have had a few family functions here this past year and have book more for this year, as I can't think of a more friendly welcoming place to have them, having pop in for a drink just over a year ago (ending up staying the whole evening) and meeting Paul & Bill must of been fate!!
Our last event being on the 23rd December in aid of Help for Heroes, a fantastic evening that everyone enjoyed raising a nice amount of money. We have organised another for March, Paul & Bill have be so helpful and more than willing to have and promote these events all for FREE!!! Bigs thanks to you both!! ;)

I love this pub, the owner Paul has been helping me organise a wedding with the function & reception at the pub. Good beer, good atmosphere and a friendly service.

Took my family and a friend there on a particularly cold winters evening, for a drink. Two roaring log fires and friendly, welcoming staff helped to create what I perceived to be a friendly atmosphere. Lots of nautical paraphernalia adorn the walls. Definitely worth a visit.

Best pub in the area by far! There is constantly a good friendly atmosphere no matter who is working which is something most establishments fail to realise is a basic requirement for a good pub! The beers are always of a fantastic standard along with the vodka..it is obvious that Aimee rules the roost which adds to the well run family atmosphere. The food is fantastic with locally sourced ingredients and a true home cooked meal....no chain pub micro meal here!! Prices are in line with the area but the quality much higher. I would advise booking a table as with deals like 2 pie meal deals for 10 on wednesdays from the new forest bakery seats fill up fast, if ever you wanted a true good quality friendly english pub that ticks all the boxes than this is it i only wish i had more time to frequent this establishment!

Nice old fashioned pub with Fuller's, which is slightly unusual
for the area. I particularly appreciate the jazz nights on the cellar

I have heard a rumour that this pub is to be turned into a JD Wetherspoons next year. Which might be a good thing for the area.

Somewhat down at heel but friendly and the Otter is good. One of the better along the Poole Rd drag, but it is a funny area that is a bit devoid of locals and passing trade.

Speaking as one of the middle aged readers (from a previous poster).

The third handpump is now in regular use, currently Palmers Copper Ale, can't say what it's like as I'm sticking to my usual Otter.

Also the pub is now serving a limited, reasonably priced food menu between 12.00 and 2.30 Monday - Friday.

Still fairly quiet, but that's the way some of us like it!

So, that is it. At the end, the regulard asset stripped the place. Roll on Wetherspoons and the 3 quid full English.

Mollies, The chip shop, and Carousel are going to feel the pinch...

Wetherspoons have it! Incumbents being booted out on Nov 7th. No doubt a rapid refurb to ensure getting Christmas crowd in.

Rumour is the car park will be sold for flats.

Interesting times.

Wetherspoons are in advanced talks with Hall and Woodhouse to take over the tennancy.

Current incumbents are likely to lose the tennancy.
This place needs money spending on it, the 'restaurant' is OK, but the bar is filthy.

They also need to keep an eye on the restaurant. The other day, a kid's high chair was caked (sic) in food, and not cleaned.

Wetherspoons will bring new management into this boozer and, hopefully, a bloody good clean up.
