We often use this pub as a base for walking in the area. We've never had a bad meal or a bad pint, though for some reason the chef puts creme anglaise on virtually all deserts regardless of what they are. The staff are friendly and the service is great.

5 stars for this establishment 09/01/11. My partner and I took our 17 month old little girl for Sunday lunch. We were all made to feel welcome and looked after very well. Food was lovely, and smaller adult portions were served. My daughter loved the mixed carrot and swede mash.

With regards to children, this is NOT a wacky warehouse, there are no indoor playgrounds and no fish fingers and nuggets on the menu, if thats what you are looking for do no go here. However if you are looking for good food, great service in a peaceful environment I would definatley go here.

Last Sunday, (28th November), we went for a Sunday meal to this pub. We took our 2 children, one is 4 and the other is 15 months. It turned out to be a complete night mare! Our 15 month son, like any other child of that age was making a bit of a noise and screaming a little and after a while, one of the waitresses came through and said, "Can you keep the noise down"! She said it in a very rude way as though we had to turn the TV or radio down.....unfortunately children do not have a volume button. I was completely disgusted and promptly complained to the bar manager who just palmed me off...in a nutshell, we were paying customers and were made to feel like criminals just because some idiot probably made a comment to the staff there. As we were made to feel so uncomfortable, we even left without taking desert or coffee. It makes me sick when places say that they are child friendly and then they turn out to be completely intolerant. To conclude, we will not be going back!

Well said Tebbs! I visit The Turf every time I am in Oxford and will applaud you for keeping a great selection of beers (and as an aside - well done to GK for allowing you the freedom). Of course the place gets busy - it is an extremely popular pub and a recognised stop on Oxford's tourist route so let's accept that and give the staff a chance! Prices are fair considering the pub's status but the beer is always good and interesting. Customers who don't recognise a beer should always ask for guidance or for a taster - it is a great way of introducing people to new beers and, of course, stops punters complaining about beer they just happen not to like without having ever tried it before. Every pub will have problems at some time for many, many reasons (staff not turning up; beer running out; large numbers of customers at one time etc.etc) but overall you cannot visit Oxford without visiting the Turf.

Brilliant real ales. As other reviewers have stated it is always packed but service usually remains friendly

Used to think this pub was ott priced but now everybody else has caught up, fine pint of Burton Bridge Porter for £2.90m and also Green King special reserve on draught well. So nice to see high gravity winter ales on draught,

One of the best in town. Unique little bar with much going for it. Another "must visit" when I am in Oxford. Sadly the excellent Shotover Brewery "Prospect" was not on but we made up for that by enjoying "Pride of Oxford" and "White Horse Bitter". Food available throughout the day; cheery staff and a nice atmosphere (yes it is touristy but so what - it what they come to Oxford for and we should be very proud that we still have pubs like this)

Decent pint of shootover prospect was had despit it being the last in teh barell which is a sign of good turnover.

Enjoyed a pint of Slaters Bitter (guest ale) and my colleague suppped some good Youngs Ordinary. Always a good cosmopolitan atmosphere in The Kings Arms with customers coming and going all the time (a good mix of Oxfordians and tourists and students) and the barman was very helpful as he got my pint straight from the cellar. Food counter is separate from the bar so you don't have to wait to be served for beer and it all seems to work well. Very handy for all the major Oxford City sites/sights.

Never been a huge fan of Youngs brews but I do like this pub and it's very well placed near the centre of town. Generally a nice college crowd and good atmosphere. Would recommend their apple pie and custard washed down with a pint of Special.

Rather fine pint of Burton Bridge Old Expensive for £2.90 good for Oxford. Warm and comfortable, shame its a Youngs pub now, I remember when it was a Morrells house!

Thank you for your constructive comments posted on the internet and for suggesting that my girlfriend is on the ornamental side, she is also very inteligent and the best girl in the world.
We are fortunate to have a regular lunch time attendance of village people and therefore the bar are is a comunal area for everybody including dogs as I would have explained to 'Bensonale' if I did not explain myself to you in the right manner at the time sir, I am sorry.
Therefore I hesitate to serve people two course lunches on my only bar table which can never be reserved 'dawn' especially when training new staff. I was not waiting for tables of 4.
I look forward to the comments added by the couple at the bar.

The comment from Dawn about being ask to move from the lovely table in the bar is one that I recognise. I too have been urged by the Landlord (young-looking guy) to sit elsewhere. I was there with a mate just enjoying the good ale - not eating. I replied that we were happy to move up if others came in, which we did. I think the Landlord needs to be a bit less interventionist in where people sit. Otherwise lovely pub although the food could be more adventurous, though the quality is excellent.

Rather a foodie pub. Real fire, dogs everywhere. Nice ambience.
Only one real ale on (Brakspear bitter), two other handpumps not doing anything when I visited. Food good.

If I may express an opinion, the blonde young lady (landlady?) is distinctly on the ornamental side. I definitely approve.

We was recommended by one of my clients to try this pub as it now has been taken over, I was a little worried that it would still be just a drinkers pub, but it was lovely. We were made very welcome and Dave & Karen looked after us well. We will certainly return and soon. We hope the village will support this little pub well.
