Best Pub in Liverpool BAR NONE.
Great Beer, Great Food, Great Staff.
Carl the Manager was really helpful and went out of his way to make sure we were looked after.
I had a pint of Garys Festival Special which im led to believe was a brew made by the managers brother, his pic is even on the clip.
excellent pub with sperb beer, food & staff.
WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?

Stan Shaw should be knighted! I've never had a bad pint in The Baltic Fleet. I prefer the stout, porter and mild while my lad prefers the lighter ales, but whatever the beer, the genius of Stan shines through.
The young bar staff are very friendly and helpful. Assistant manager Trevor Williams is a great bloke.
As for the toilets, the management are installing new ones and even better news is the Wapping Brewery is due to increase its output.

This place is a gem..! It's always one of the first on our list for our regular Liverpool pub-crawl. Wapping beer is hard to beat, although it didn't suit one of our group, and the food is always well-cooked and very reasonably priced. (Mind you, any comparison with London prices will look good..!) Really nice people serving, one barmaid with multi-coloured hair certainly added something to the ambience..! Must try an evening visit sometime... sounds like it could be lively..! Great pub... should be preserved for the nation..! Now off to "The Cracke"...

Reviews by BITE users:

Good range of beers but not many ales from down south and not enough stouts and porters. But they have had Sharps Cornish Coaster the last couple of times I've been there which was well kept. Other ales I've tried there haven't been well kept! Worth a visit though.

Stunning selection of beers, this place is well worth a visit. Friendly bar staff, lively atmosphere & a good range of food. I only stayed for 1 drink but will certainly be back again to try some of the interesting drinks on offer. I can recommend the chocolate stout.
3 Aug 2008 11:26
Great range of great beers, from fantastic breweries. I had a couple of different pints, both of which were very tired and way past their best. It seems there are just too many beers on at one time. A real shame as half the amount of beers could be twice as fresh. Still, there was a great atmosphere and I'd go back.

The Gents has a screen to stop splashback from the urinal. This gives me as much pleasure as the ornate glass dome.
10 Jun 2008 12:57
Beautiful old pub, worth a visit just to see the interior and always seems to have a decent pint available. A must visit for us each time we visit Liverpool and really handy for Moorfields station. Excellent.
2 Jun 2008 18:24
Oops,it would seem that I have hit a raw nerve with Wirral-Realalian. Yes, I do work there, it's hardly a state secret. No has complained to myself or any other staff memeber about the temperature of our beers, if they were to do so we would do our utmost to rectify any short-fallings there and then, rather that wait for anonymity of web-page to make sweeping generalisations.

Reviews by BITE users:

Just re-visited this excellent riverside pub, must be 5 years since the last visit, only because I have to drive to get there. Seems totally unchanged thank God. Bigger than I remember, as you enter from the front the main room (bar on the right) welcomes you with beamed ceilings, cartoon pictures and a glimpse of the fire at the far end. There are three rooms off this to the left, the one at the front a snug, the one at the back quite large, sometimes has music nights. The fireplace is floor to ceiling dark carved wood covered in brasses with a highly polished club fender. Timothy Taylors 'Landlord' and 'Black Sheep' were nice although a little too chilled. 'Abbot ale also on but not sampled. This is a really nice unspoit old fashioned pub. I just wish I lived round the corner. Seek it out if you're in the area.
20 Apr 2008 21:59
Excellent and unspoilt, retaining its small rooms and character. Beer (Deuchars IPA/ Taylor's Landlord) in very good nick but a bit pricey.
16 Dec 2007 22:44
From 20/06/2007:

The beer garden has been done up. Sheltered from the wind, and with a great view of the river, it is a good

place for a pint on a sunny afternoon, or warm summer evening.

Brilliant drinker's pub. Huge selection of ales- the best in Southport- and plenty interesting nooks and crannies.
17 Jun 2008 23:55
A brilliant pub, off the main drag enough not to get the scallies, with a great beer choice and all mine, through the week, were in great condition. Easily, for me, the best pub in Southport, despite (or because of) it not doing any food other than rolls. Three distinct drinking areas plus a 'patio' (we'll draw a veil over that!), we loved it on each of our visits. I would go back to Southport just to re visit it, not sure why it isn't in the current GBG.
2 Jun 2008 17:45
Great pub with tonnes of real ales, although a bad pint last time i was there made me rough for the rest of the weekend

Reviews by BITE users:

I wanted to love this place and I have to say that the building itself is great. However; the garden is overgrown and the beer was decidedly dodgy, I tried both. We had to wait to get served while the girl finished her fag out the front.
I imagine it could be a cracker, hopefully we just hit it on an off day.
2 Jun 2008 17:56
Atmospheric, basic, thatched pub with concrete floor, open fire, corner bar under the staircase and timbers of the original cruck building in evidence, all in one small room (2 other rooms, 1 with dart board and picnic tables outside). Once walked in to find five or six of the regulars eating cheese and biscuits and pickles round the table watching the football on a tiny screen above the alcove next to the fire. I thought we'd walked into a farm kitchen. Changing guest real ale. A one off.

Love this pub,it has a special meaning for me as I first met my partner there. If your going to pass this pub drop in on the way.

This is a very interesting place. Yes needs money spending on it but has great atmosphere, beer and well worth the trip.
4 Jun 2008 14:58
If you're in Liverpool don't be "cruel" on yourself and make a special trip as it is STILL shut!!
21 May 2008 13:56
If you are crueling Liverpool try a trip on the ferry to Birkenhead. Once you get past the dated decor this is a place to visit. Recommened every time.

Very few pubs find their way into CAMRA's "Special Interiors" list. The Stork features in it and deservedly so. Fantastic Victorian mosaic flooring and tiling from the defunct Della Robia pottery (I think) set this traditional inn apart. Good, plain and honest food (2 meals for £5) and a range of well kept beers (at £1.50 a pint from 16/00 to 19/00)all contribute to a very positive experience.
4 Mar 2008 18:34
Nice pub with mosaic floor, tiled walls and victorian wood and glass screens around central bar with seating around a fireplace in the main part. Camera listed and usually have 3 or 4 well kept changing real ales (favorite so far was Jennings Snecklifter). Does food, mostly though the day (not sampled) but retains a local pub feel with separate areas including Pool table.
2 Mar 2008 15:22
Fantastic decor and some very lovely beer in this very friendly CAMRA National Inventory listed Birkenhead pub. Received good advice about where to go in Liverpool town centre. Pint of Dark Delight (correct name escapes me) was fine as was another great ale (again, beer memory evades me).

Reviews by BITE users:

A great pub; but is it still open ? I strongly suspect the over-critical Mr/Mrs "Needapub" was/were the staff sacked round about the same time their 'review' was penned.

Sour grapes methinks !

My own experience of T'Oak was of a warm, cosy and friendly pub that was trying really hard to keep alive the essence of what a good pub should be. The choice of real ales was legendary throughout Merseyside. If "Needapub" insisted on drinking that awful chemical drink known as lager I'm not surprised their rear end was painful soon after ! Had they stuck to the extremely well-kept real ale they would have had no problems.

In short, a great pub, serving great ale in a trouble-free and safe environment; just as it should be. I sincerely hope some way can be found of preserving it for future generations "
16 Apr 2008 13:53
Sutton Oak, Bold - Simply a flithy, damp smelling, dump of a pub! New Bold Estate had been promised a new decent pub on the estate - instead we got this stinking flea pit with unfriendly owners. Dont drink more than two pints, as they will run out of Ale, if not you get the shits - No soap or loo roll either!! A total shambles! Whoever gave them the Real Ale Award 2006 needs stringing up they obviously have never been their!!! And they even wonder why it is always empty!!! Dont waste your time or money - it really is the pits!!
13 Jan 2008 22:35
Overrated in my opinion. Pub was empty when I went and there wasn't even any staff behind the bar. I left, beerless. Not as many draughts as I thought they'd have either. I believe you can't use the beer garden there either.

Reviews by BITE users:

Like other candidates for CAMRA National Pub of the Year, it’s not always obvious just what qualities it possesses to mark it out. It usually takes a little time but the reasons become apparent. The Turk’s is unlike other nominations for 2007 in that it is in a basic, back-to-back area of town and it’s thus a genuine community local. This one presents an attractive exterior and once inside, the public bar took on a friendly atmosphere. The lounge is particularly attractive, as is the range of well-kept real ales. The problem for the casual visitor is the distance from the town centre but the effort would be well worth it. Oh, by the way, there is a good selection of books to read, including of all things – Gray’s Anatomy!
3 Jun 2008 21:31
I really don't see what the fuss is about to be honest. It takes a lifetime to get served and there's never anywhere to sit (ok, yes because its booming with customers)

i guess its better than the cowley tho(although that place would score higher if it went back to being called the Anfield)

also, has anyone else thought of the nickname turtle's head?? thats genious!
13 Mar 2008 13:44
Excellent range of beers, but beware the local chavs. Last time I went in I had an excellent pint, but suffered taunts from pissed up chavs who'd been drinking all afternoon. The manageress obviously didn't want to intervene as they were regulars.

Well worth going in, but it's better if you're not on your own, and watch out for the drunken chavs.

Reviews by BITE users:

Oh dear ! Its some months since my last visit, but..............................I didn't think it was possible, but The Com have actually made the Cains bitter taste even worse ! Actually, taste is perhaps the wrong choice of word since the drink served in The Com now has no taste whatsoever. I really don't know what they do to transform what leaves the Liverpool brewery as one of the tastiest pints around into a brown, taste-free liquid. Anyone any ideas ? Oh, and the much-lauded jukebox is far too loud as well !
12 May 2008 13:41
Not being an afficionado of 'real ale', I can't really sympathise with ECLWRIG's criticisms of the Commercial- although I agree that budweiser is swill unfit for animal consumption. All that being said, ECLWRIG omits to mention one crucial thing: the Commercial boasts a tip-top-notch new-fangled jukebox. The pub itself is small but 'cosy', whilst the somewhat old-fashioned decor gives it a nostalgically proletarian character that is not altogether unpleasing.
10 Mar 2008 21:07
This used to be a great pub' sadly, the last 5/6 years have not been kind to The Com. The real ale is undrinkable, although I have to say, the staff have perfected the art of making every pint of real ale taste exactly the same, whether it be 'Bombardier'/'Pedigree'/'Landlord' et.c....it mystifies me how they have been able to achieve this. The Cains bitter is absolutely undrinkable, a great shame for what is normally a dependable pint. It is clear that the preferred clientele are the youths who steadfastly refuse to drink from a glass and would rather enhance their street cred by wandering round The Com swigging out of the disgusting bottles of Bud (brewed in the UK by the way !). My friends and I used to visit The Com every Saturday night and had been doing so for nearly 20 years; sadly, we are now compelled to use the train to find decent real ale further afield. A great shame

Reviews by BITE users:

Its years since I've been in this pub, what a shock I got, I remember an olde world atmosphere with old Stan the manager, geeze how times change, I sent 2 pints back because of dirty glasses, I sent a whisky back because the glass still had a 'rum' smell, so not washed properley, the decor is in need of a fix, and the old patrons I remember have in the most part been replaced by dubious looking characters, also the whiff of substances that were not cigars was a big put off, although not all negative, in the area that I remember as the bar were some charming old gentlemen of the old school who it was a pleasure to talk to, staff could have been more cheerful..I think it will be many more years before I set foot in this establishment again, sadly it looks like its got to the stage were it needs a tough manager

jus got in from a crawl of a few in the area, it was ok i thought but my fella said his pint was iffy next time we will try the grub, hic

Has someone who eats burgers been to the same pub as me? Will he be swimming with dolphins in the pubs beer as thats how bad it is!! The service is awfull, the food, (when you can get it), is just as bad....just steer clear!
2 May 2008 13:21
Contrary to what other people have said, I have never found the Hare and Hounds' service to be anyting less than outstanding. What's more, they do a truly outstanding burger. The pub regulars tend to the be hard-working, honest local folk of Tarbock. Visit the Hare and Hounds and you will not leave disappointed; indeed, you might just find that it is a life changing experience - on a par with swimming with dolphins etc.
10 Mar 2008 20:45
This pub is understaffed, the catering unreliable the only saving grace is when the pub is open the staff that are their are friendly even if overworked.
