user reviews of the Providence, Hove

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Please do not call your burgers "gourmet" when an average patty is accompanied by 3 day old lettuce and a sliver of tired tomato, both of which looked as if they had been left outside the below-average fruit and veg stall across the road.

dwayne696969 and brightondrinker just about sum this place up.

And, before anybody starts back at me : they use the word gourmet on the menu and make a mockery of it - misrepresentation of the word gourmet, I'm afraid

This pub tries its best. Yes it has got a new feel to it but at least they are trying to do something different to all the other chains.

The food is usually good and its a great pub to watch the footie in.

I really like this pub, it's lively and homely. I enjoy the fact the drinks aren't extortionate, so it's good to meet friends there before going onto a club. It's also good for the football and sports nights if you're into that type of thing, watched the England via Germany final there last year and the atomosphere was great!!!!

Horrible. Feels like you are drinking in the type of pubs you get in Railway Stations or maybe Heathrow Terminal 3. Not my thing.

give them credit for trying to be a music and comedy venue with the face of a wetherspoons - the croud try their best to enjoy themselves, but it's fairly souless really.

Easy to pull in here.

No character at all, just the ground floor of an ugly office block, tries to attract customers with cheap promotions. Easy to get into though as it is rarely busy

From the outside this pub just looks like any other Yates/Wetherspoon Hole, and I guess you would be right. Except for the live bands the have on Friday nights, which have been exellent and range from Indie to Rock and Grunge, it doesn't have a great deal more to offer. You can usually find a seat as it's pretty large and it comes with the usual company style menu, burgers, wraps, dips, chips and chicken wings. I only go for the music when it is transformed for a night into a great venue.
