Like him or loathe him (personally I quite like the bloke)it cannot be denied that Shaun has turned this pub around big time. Since he's been there(about three years ?)I haven't seen or heard of any fights taking place. He seems to have got rid of a lot of the rubbish that used to go in.

It's very nice inside coupled with a pleasant covered patio area out the back and a good secure garden. The real ales are always in good nick alongside very well presented, reasonably priced food.

My fear is that Shaun will leave and go elsewhere. To those who haven't been in for while I can only suggest you give it a try.

My only complaint is that on live music nights (about once or twice a month) when you have to buy a ticket then the whole pub is out of bounds to those who just want a drink and aren't interested in the music. I don't believe that "public" houses should be allowed to do this; another bar (which the H&H does have) should remain open for general use.

in reply to largerlovers comments, what exactly is the problem with the kids ?? you condone taking children into what is essentially an adult environment ?? i go to pubs to get away from my children, to relax, its adult time being in a pub, children time is something totally different.
Shaun has a rule for kids, its totally fair in my humble opinion, in the past there were kids running all over place in the afternoon, some still in school uniform, thats disgusting again in my humble opinion, if people cant even be bothered to take the kids home to change before heading off for a drink then there is something sadly lacking there i,m afraid.
As for the lesbian nights i think its a much better atmosphere around the whole place since they seem to have taken their trade elsewhere, and gay men ?? havent seen any in there so cant possibly comment.
Shaun !! keep up the good work !!

well well well...lesbian night's at the pub, would have thought that anyone would have loved that? man or a woman...fair play to them all...what about the gay men that go in the hare and hound's,bet nobody say's anything about them?

went into this pub a few times(wish i didn't)shaun IS NOT A LEGNED BY A LONG SHOT)there has been more fight's inside and outside more then any other pub in sunbury, wish people would take the time to get to know shaun because he is VERY 2FACED..when your back is turned he talk's about you..dont find it a family pub at all, meal with kid's then you have to leave?what happened to all the free food for the football boy's?um think that was just to pull them in...his got a sand pit? maybe a swimming pool next....

Very busy last night, but despite this and the perception the clientele could give to strangers, the London Pride was excellent and really stands out as an example of how to provide for all tastes in a relaxed non-threatening atmosphere. Shaun is not grumpy and the food is reasonably-priced and excellent quality.

Popped in to the Hare last night for a swift pint and the place was bouncing !!! The Guvnor has become a dj !! apparently he hosts an old skool disco every Saturday night, the atmosphere was fantastic - the bloke has totally turned the place around - what a change from the old lesbian karaoke nights with all the bitching that went with that, Shaun is a legend !!

Has now been tarted up and is a vast improvement on a couple of years ago, although basically anything short of shutting the pub would have made it better than a couple of years ago.

Used to be inferior to the Running Horse but is now definitely better by a long way.

Nice Fullers pub, three handpulls on the go (ESB, Pride and Chiswick) which tasted very nice with reasonable prices (Pride was £2.60)

Outside has a bit of an art deco look to it, whilst the inside has had an obvious refurb, which, whilst clean and tidy, can't make up it's mind as to whether it's all-out dark wood art deco or pine slabbed gastro. This is occasionally mixed together (as in the dining area) with grating results. There should be only one obvious choice, and it ain't the pine gastro!

Worth a visit, it's a tidy pub with tidy beer but has the potential for more.

Unbeleivable change in this place !! great gigs, carvery, spotless clean, you never have to wait for a drink, i was in there years ago and it was a drug ridden toilet - not these days, amzing changes in the place, so fair play to the current landlord for turning it round

i couldnt beleive the change in the place - if you heard about it before and were put off - try it again - its great

only downside is a group of local builders who appear to think they own the place - shame really

As the reviewer said in Oct '05, this Fullers pub is under new management and has in fact been refurbished since that review was published.

There's an excellent Wednesday-Sunday carvery on offer in a separately partitioned non-smoking dining area, although you can get food served to you anywhere, including the huge outdoor seating area which includes a substantial beer garden.

Shaun the manager runs a tight ship with polite staff, clean glasses and the best-kept London Pride I have ever tasted: and I've been going there several times a week for over a year, so I can attest to the consistency of ale quality too. He'll do you a roast meat baguette with any of the current carvery meats on offer, my favourite being the ever-succulent turkey and cranberry with dressed salad garnish on a freshly baked baguette.

Outstanding value too: where else in Surrey could you get a nosh like that AND a pint of Pride for less than 6 quid all told ? Come and enjoy the Hare and Hounds, always good for footie with a big screen, and no tolerance of any of the dodgier Sunbury element.

Let's reward the effort and commitment of landlords like Shaun. This is John saying: Cheers !

Oh, and while I'm on here, next karaoke is 19th November! ;)
mandyb - 10 Nov 2005 16:03
Sorry, I don't know Anonymous of 9th November. The last karaoke that was there was run by a lady called Julie.

I haven't heard of Matt Black, but I'll ask some of my other karaoke host friends if they have and let you know on here if I find out!
mandyb - 10 Nov 2005 16:01
The Karaoke will never be as good as when Matt Black used to dio it - whatever happened to him?

I'm the person that runs the monthly karaoke at this pub now. The one that's 'great compared to the last lot'...LOL! Thanks for the compliment Anonymous..I think! hehehe

Anyway, onto the pub. When I first learned I was going to play here, I was a bit worried, because I had heard terrible things about it from other people.'Spit and sawdust' 'horrid punters' etc springs to mind.

So, when I made my first appearance, I was most pleasantly surprised to see that none of it was true. It had been true apparently, but since the new management had taken over, things had improved drastically, as other comments below confirm.

The garden is massive! It's a shame that winter is approaching, because it wont get the use it deserves for a few more months now.

Nice comfortable settees and padded chairs throughout the pub, and a pool table in the back area so that men can play with their balls in public ;)

The clientele on every night I have been there have been very welcoming, and I haven't seen a hint of trouble once.

Next karaoke is on October 22nd 2005 ( Get a plug in while I can!) and I'm also there on New Year's Eve

I just went down to the Hare and Hounds at lunchtime, and was very very impressed. Massive beer garden, drastically underutilised, but then it is midweek. GREAT pint of Pride, £2.35, beat that !
ifyouaskedmeonafriday - 31 Aug 2005 14:24

recently visited this pub, which used to be my local.
I must say it's looking and feeling much better which i think is due to it being under new management, the decor looks good and the local rif raf looks like they have dissapeared. I went on a karoake night which was great compared to the last lot!
Would recommend checking it out if you're in the area!

karaoke has finished , previous manager left in november , new menu available , live music on friday nights starting feb. 4th 2005 , various artists booked over the coming months both new and old groups, duos and solo artists ,25 th february for k.c and the soul review , a mixture of all the classic 70's songs plus the added attraction of various costume changes

This is a mammoth pub which has some much potential - the problem is none of this potential makes up for the absolute sham of a pub. The punters are terrifying.
mike2004 - 31 Aug 2004 14:19
I agree with The Ginger Prince - my advice... keep on driving
The Pub Ghost - 19 Aug 2004 20:17
From the outside, looks like quite a nice pub, especially baring in mind it is in Sunbury.

However, the one time I went in, I was greeted with a Karaoke evening, seemingly populated by the worst elements of Feltham/Sunbury white trash. Also noticed all the dodgy shirtless geezers drinking outside when it gets hot. All in all, a very rough and rubbish pub, unless you have a white van, and go down the Bridge every weekend.
