Fullers spent a fortune tarting the place up but in my mind the pub has changed for the worst. Prices now sky high. (still go in there though sucker)

Sorry curioushistory, it's a Fuller's pub (since last November).

A Marston's pub, recently refurbished in a plewasant, if touch bland style. Still, a definite improvement on the old incarnation.

This very nice pub has just been acquired by Fuller's.

Still closed at 1200 noon when I went and at quarter pastthe hour on my return, tried all doors..So went elsewhere...Not asking much to open on time especially as the bulk of tourists buses/coaches drop off outside...

A very good pub never had a bad night there and some very nice looking ladies behind the bar.

An extensive pub on many different levels, conveniently located just around the corner from the abbey. Its had an extensive refurbishment since I was in here last, and now has a much more contemporary feel and open and was packed to capacity on a recent Saturday afternoon visit, although the fact that it was St. Patricks Day and Ireland were playing England at the rugby no doubt contributed to that.

Downstairs is the more contemporary bar with striped wooden flooring and that pale brown paintwork that is very much in vogue with pub makeovers these days. There were a couple of plasmas around showing the rugby. In the basement is a pleasant cellar bar that mostly seems to be used for hosting live music and a band were in the process of setting up their gear when I poked my head around the door. A mid level floor at the back is an all together plusher space with carpeted flooring and some exposed stone work on the rear wall. Finally at the top is another large room with its own bar counter and a somewhat darker, more formal appearance with flock wallpaper, ornate gilded mirrors, some elaborate hanging lights and some photographic artwork on the walls. The few seats in the window gave pleasant views of the hills beyond the city. There was also another plasma which seemed a little out of place here.

Food menu was an extensive pub grub affair, with various sections such as burgers, pasta and nibbles. Most of the mains were around the 6 - 7 mark although we didnt eat so I cant comment on the quality.

Beers on tap were Breakspears Oxford Gold, Abbeys Bellringer and Whychwoods Hobgoblin and Dirty Tackle. Ciders were a somewhat unadventurous Blackthorn and Strongbow.

Typical Marstons pub. First pub of the visit nice pint off Bellringer.

Closed and covered in scaffolding, banner outside advertises opening on December 6th as a Marstons outlet. Boy does it need a refurb!

Not the fanciest pub in the world - maybe time for a new carpet - but friendly staff, prices OK for Bath centre, nice pint of Ugly Sisters and best of all THE BEST burger anywhere, ever! 6 of these points are for the burger alone .

Reading the previous post it would make it seem there is always trouble in the Huntsman but I have never seen any, not in the main bar anyway. I don't tend to stay late or go upstairs though so maybe thats where the trouble is. Has a good pint of Bellringer ans the staff are alway good and friendly. A nice big place that you can get a seat in or lean at the bar without having to move every 2 seconds. Gets a good score on my reckoning.

Expensive and it has a reputation for trouble. Go to Lambrettas across the road.

Hmmmmm try elsewhere

GFreat place to start a crawl around Bath! Good selection of ales and lagers, not most expensive place in town. Honeys behind the bar with excellent service and sense of humour.

I go 2 the Huntsman every week and have been for about 2 months! i never get bored of it better then alot of other places in bath, there is a different lot of people every week apart from me n me mate! The Bouncers r wicked find every one in there very friendly. wicked music oldies! gotta luv thm! myself i dont think the drinks are that expensive. Most of all there is never ever any trouble. One hell of a good time in there i think.

One of the largest pubs in Bath. Not exactly cheap, and the upstairs bar has a rubbish selection of beers. Downstairs and cellar are ok though. Also has a dance floor.

5 entry fee after about 11pm, so although they have a late license you have to pay to get in.

This is one of those pubs that has a splendid town centre location, but relies on this to draw in trade rather than making the interior or the drinks on offer nice. I'd recommend finding somewhere else to drink.

This used to be a great big laugh! Then an accountant got the idea that paint and a new plastic food menu would be a good excuse to up the beer prices and give the staff a bad attitude. Not the best place to be, if you want a good bath pub, go to the Alehouse next door for a real pint.

maltedbarley - 17 Feb 2007 13:03
It's OK- very big, dancefloor upstairs, rooms to the rear and big pool hall in the cellar. usually a couple of ales- otter and courage. Has had a late licence since before everywhere did but thats no benefit now- go to the Coer de Lion or Volly's. Could do much better with the location- why block out the could-be-excellent views from the top floor?!?!

The toilets smell of farts, as does the beer. Wouldn't touch with someone else's barge pole.

what happened to the Huntsman? A classic late night hangout ruined.. full of those daft blokes with fluffy styled hair wearing salmon pink polo shirts - do they realise they look like tits?

The pub still stays open late, but the move to resemble a garden centre has ruined it.
TheGP - 20 Sep 2005 20:56
Used to be a good pub, but what the hell is going on with the refurb? It looks like a tart's boudoir! I don't think I have seen so much foliage in a pub ever before.

One of those places where you sit down and have a few beers and suddenly it is half 12 and you're necking sambuca. Time flies.

Cool balcony bit just down from the dancefloor and as previous the pool area downstairs is great.

Marvellous pub that stays open till 2am - hence bit expensive, but has a great upstairs bit and good jukebox.
TheGP - 10 Aug 2004 15:16
