George and Dragon, Beaumarisback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
After finding yet another Anglesey pub closed (the Owain Glyndwr at Llandona), I arrived into Beaumaris for the first time in over 30 years. First port of call was this Robinsons pub. It feels like a little decoration could be in order, with the carpets in particular being well worn. But this is a very old building (with low ceilings in places - watch your head) that promotes its 16th century wall paintings. The 2 ales were George & Dragon Ale & Hop Gun. Worth a visit. But the ale quality doesn't seem too reliable.

All the previous reviews are very old so here's an update.
I dropped in at lunchtime with my wife after a visit to the Beaumaris Castle.
With ref to the last comment there was a couple in the bar with a dog in the bar happily gnawing on a bone so obviously that attitude has changed.
I had a piny of Dizzy Blonde which was excellent. We both had a toasted sandwich and it came with a salad drizzled with balsamic,and a potion of coleslaw.
The decor is traditional dark wood, carpets on the floor giving a cosy comfortable feel. Overall it is the kind of pub I like.

Not dog friendly unless you're part of the cliche....paid for our food but left without eating it as was a very hostile environment. Have written a letter of complaint to the Manager, not heard anything back...AVOID!

My favourite pub. Former owners Rosie and Griff made this experience the BEST! They did everything they could to make our visit enjoyable! 600 year old pub has an interesting history ranging from Cromwell's visit in the 17th/c to the archeaological study that is progressing upstairs by Oxford prof's. The walls of the old place are still intact and host a variety of old pics and odds and ends. Great fire in the winter time and a variety of lagers to choose from (I, of course, had my fill of Robinson's Unicorn while there: nice bitter served in a clean line). The Welsh 'mafia' of Pete the F******, Machete John and Machinegun Lou are terrific drinking companions. No trip to Beaumaris can be complete without visiting the G&D. A wonderful place!! This place has been around since 1410 in the same location-which is right down the street from Beaumaris Castle. Has a great and interesting history (we were told a story about Oliver Cromwell disciplining his men b/c they had gotten too drunk at the George and Dragon) as well as a few pulls (Robinson's). We were served lunch after the kitchen had closed by the owner-Rosie. Once she heard that we were from the US and examining the castle, she struck up a great conversation with us and had her staff prepare us a nice lunch simply b/c, "we had come a long way." Nice wooden interior with a few dart boards and TV. Ample space for sitting with friends and drinking a few cask ales. Rosie's co-owner, Griff, is a large and friendly dog that freely wanders around and sits with patrons! One of the best experiences that I have had in a pub thus far...and I have had many.
