No longer a bar called Baroosh...
revamped and appears to be Jamaican themed eatery...

Modern chain bar on the High Street in Staines. It's a large place. But didn't seem too popular on a Thursday evening. This doesn't surprise me considering there is very little open on the High Street after 6pm and the much cheaper Wetherspoons is a few doors down. McMullens Cask Ale was the solitary real ale, alongside a selection of cask and bottled beers. There were more women in this bar than the 3 previous pubs I had visited. The others were male-dominated and were more traditional boozers. Doubt I'd return here with the Wetherspoons so close.

If you find yourself in Staines (...how did i get here...??!) and you want a 'posher' pub, "Baroosh" is your bag baby..!
Generally good staff, good service. And you can get a nice glass of wine in there. Food is good, probably better than average for the Staines area. It does lack a certain atmosphere, especially during the day, so it's best to take some "atmo" with you when you go in here! It's fairly close to the Vue Cinema complex, so must get some clientele from there. I like the Baroosh (...used to be 'The Angel' pub, 10 years or so ago. And if you stand outside the front door and look up 2 storeys, you can just make out "The Angel" still showing in the design facia...bit of trivia for you there!) :o) TJ

Its alright for a plastic pub, nice staff the beer is always good and its not too noisy. Very clean and tidy as well.
vanburkson - 16 Aug 2010 14:26
I quite like this pub in the evenings if I am up this end of town. Nice and clean and a comfotable environment.
TomRandell - 19 May 2010 15:03
Its a plastic pub but probably the best of all of the plastics. Very well kept, clean and tidy, it may look a bit to much like an art gallery for some tastes but the beer whilst expensive is crisp and fresh. Its not my cup of tea but for people who like that style of pub I imagine it would probably be high up on their list of establishments. because of this its a 7 for me.

Drinks are way over priced and the place seems quite clinical. I dont know what it is about this place but it lacks any sort of atmosphere. You instantly feel quite dilapidated when you enter Baroosh..........
spiderman10 - 17 Jun 2009 18:41
Went was ok nothing to shout about drinks are way over priced, and wasnt offered a glass with my red bull like i wana drink out of a can.
Staines_local - 24 Feb 2009 19:49
I like the venue, I like the staff, the music is good (most of the time), food tries to be more up market than it really is, but thats not to say it isn't nice!

I only have two problems with Baroosh, the customers (on the whole) are so far stuck up their own rear ends it makes you feel like you're being judged all the time, as though they're thinking you're not good enough to be in their company! And the way it gets busy on a Fri/Sat night but people seem to want to cram around the middle, USE the space people, it will be far more comfortable for all. Oh and I also think they should have a door person present towards the back. Witnessed an incident the other night that the door staff took a while to get to because they were all at the front!

Merry Christmas Baroosh boozers..!! Staff, well done! Keep up the good work. May 2008 be an even better year! And don't let the Baroosh Barhumbuggers get you down..!! Hippy New Yeah..!! TJ
TeeJay - 28 Dec 2007 02:23
found it VERY EXPENSIVE and strangely lifeless and sterile, maybe it was just me!
unclesam - 9 Oct 2007 17:55
I moved away from staines about 2 years ago and returned last weekend to catch up with some old friends. Going out on the town visiting all the old places like Haha, the Hob and even the town hall. On my return to Baroosh, i noticed some big changes some good some bad but to my shock was the change in management. Big Man Aaron is no more and where the hell is Phil and Andy. The place didn't seem the alive anymore......
Bring back the old boys!!!!

we came here on saturday and I was impressed,it was well air conditioned and spacious the toilets were lovely. The prices wernt as high as I expected.
Bar staff appeared happy to be working there and tabels were cleared on a regular basis and in organised fashion.

I would definatly return!
rachelmaywheeler - 30 Apr 2007 12:56
Not really my cup of tea usually. However, went in to eat on a saturday lunchtime and it was very pleasant.
TheGP - 31 Mar 2007 18:23
Was surprised by this place, not really my scene !!
Had a lovely pint of Pauliner on draught. Had some food that I felt was good value. Would not be against going back here.
snowdog2112 - 8 Mar 2007 15:32
A trendy young persons bar, which is clean and well designed (for what it tries to be).

Also serves one real ale (McMullen's Best) which was in decent enough condition tonight (almost certainly uses a cask breather, but at least they're trying!). Staff are decent too.

Can't complain really. If you're doing a night out in Staines, it's well worth a look especially if you're with trendies.
Quinno - 30 Jan 2007 00:01
BAROOOSHHH !!! Great bar!
*************************
Great in the afternoon. Great in an evening. If you're over 21 (and look it!) you'll have no problems here. If you're looking for a good traditional pub, this is not your bag, baby!
(Staff to note the last comment by 'Redhat'... another customer lost...?!)
Nice bar, I always find the bar staff efficient & helpful. You can get a latte coffee, or a tall Erdinger lager (German wheat beer) here at most times of the day, which is really useful if your shopping with the love of your life..!!
The bouncers at night I have always found also quite helpful and astute, and as doorman go, better than average! Baroosh does now have to compete with the 'Town Hall' and the 'Boundary' nearby (which are 2 fine establishments themselves now) but 'Baroosh' is still out front by a nose..! There is a raised area at the rear which is a 'no-smoking' area for those who may not like cigarette smoke, but when busy, this area becomes as smokey as the rest of the premises!! Begging the question, why have a 'no smoke area' if its not done properly..!? The bar food I have always found quite reasonable, if you don't mind 'trendy' food. I would probably go here more often, if there was a proper vent system, or a real smoke-free bar. A shame really, 'cos I quite like this trendy bar, there are not many like it in the area. But because of the smoke, I can only rate it 7/10..! TJ
TeeJay - 30 Aug 2006 14:08
I found this bar very clean and relaxing, the only problem is the slow bar staff, no lie you will have problems getting served, they have no idea who has been waiting the longest, if you end up waiting more than 3-4 minutes leave, you could be waiting all night, thats exactly what i did
RedHat - 2 Aug 2006 18:42
One of the best places to go in Staines. If you want to have some adult company and conversation go here. They are doing a good job of keeping the "Chavs" of Staines out!! More of a wine bar than a pub. Good place for after work drinks. Modern and clean.
allsainter - 20 Apr 2006 17:13
This is quite a nice bar, but can get extremely busy in the evening at weekends, also has Jenna the Peach that works behind the bar.
El_Capitain - 22 Feb 2006 16:45
Baroosh great for coffee or quick beer after shopping
tod - 21 Feb 2006 17:18
Really good staff, excellent for food and a coffee during the afternoon, only criticism would be the House music played in the evenings at the weekend, a more open music policy would make this a much better place to go to in the evening.
Mook - 1 Jan 2006 03:32
No atmosphere? You should have been in last night, great music and wall to wall rippers! Miserable staff? Try smiling at them.
MrG - 16 Dec 2005 12:33
Ok food no atmosphere miserable staff. Move on more a restaurant, other pubs are better in the town.
danielb - 20 Sep 2005 10:21
Great music at the weekends, hav'nt been in here for a couple of months but glad to see it's still on top!
Keep it up!
anonymous - 16 Sep 2005 10:33
Pretty good atmosphere and usually clean toilets so a handy place to nip in for a quick pint and to 'drop a few friends off at the pool' before continuing the circuit.
MrG - 23 Aug 2005 07:53
Easily served in here which is such a bonus. Not much in the way of stimulation though.

just a drink and you're off.
anonymous - 9 Aug 2005 00:45
I don't think that it is that expensive for what you get. I live in Ascot and regularly come to Staines to come here because of the food and the wine. They also serve 35ml of spirits so you can actualy taste what you are drinking!
Can you please open one is Ascot?!!
anonymous - 30 Jun 2005 10:17
Staines must have been missing a decent pub for Baroosh to have received such positive adulation

Its very , very "normal"
pjj - 27 Jun 2005 15:22
Didn't this place used to be The Angel Hotel? I thought I recognised the address.

Used to DJ here (and the Galleon in Chertsey AND the Hero in Bagshot) back in the 80s.

Obviously their pricing policy hasn't changed much - always was one of the most expensive pubs in Staines apart from "special offer" nights.

What a great time we used to have there, tho! <vbg>
toffee_exile - 23 Jun 2005 09:47
If you're not happy with the prices they charge then its your right to drink elsewhere. Its called consumer choice.
anonymous - 23 Jun 2005 09:05
This place doesn't warrant the prices it charges!!
Lowering them won't mean it fills up with 'Ben Sherman' shirts, it'll make customers feel like they'e not being ripped off!!!!!!
anonymous - 17 Jun 2005 10:22
If they lower the prices or do something stupid like two for one then the place rapidly fills up with Ben Sherman shirts and the atmosphere goes out the window.
MrG - 16 Jun 2005 09:04
EXPENSIVE!!!
Two drinks cost nearly 8, the atmosphere was good, the place looked nice but if they lower the drink prices it would be even better!

anonymous - 3 Jun 2005 11:26
Was in on Saturday for another banging night, Bongo player in this Weekend!
horse - 10 May 2005 15:12
What an AMAZING Saturday night, i have to say i have never been to a bar with such an atmosphere. It was Electric!!
Bongo Drummer?? where did that one come from. Have to say that the Whole thing worked Bloody well, DJ's & Live Bongo drummer, everyone dancing! Brill!
Is he a regular thing? I hear theyt are having him back at the easter weekend with a Saxophone player ASWELL! Me and my friends will be there!

samyj - 16 Mar 2005 11:55

I went to baroosh this past saturday night, and had a wicked night out... but its staines!! can you believe it having a good night in staines.
I live over kingston way so i dont really come to staines much but i may return. the djs are great & very fit. Danced the night away, as well getting pissed.
i love this place
anonymous - 13 Feb 2005 11:19
Drop your business card into the jar on the bar to win a free meal for two. It works as well cos I won.
MrG - 8 Feb 2005 13:47
Coolest place to be..
anonymous - 7 Feb 2005 17:13
I love this place!!
anonymous - 7 Feb 2005 17:13
what a great place, best to hit staines. check it out
anonymous - 4 Feb 2005 23:51
Definately the best bar in Staines by a mile. Service always good, staff actually seem to have some training and enthusiasm for what they do. I go most days, for lunch or a coffee, can't get enough of the place.
anonymous - 4 Feb 2005 00:15
samyj - the "age of the charver" at the Toad is about to come to a very welcome end as its closing for a refurb to re-open as Que Casa. I agree with you - I don't mind paying 3.10 for a pint of Stella in a bar free from charvers.
MrG - 3 Feb 2005 08:34
This place has the greatest service and the best atmosphere, especially at the weekends with the D.Js playing some excellent tunes and it's open til 12. Gets my vote for the best place in town or even Surrey!

May be pricey but no Chavers! (stay at the Toad Chavers!)
samyj - 2 Feb 2005 16:06
Bit pricey when you think that it is only Staines but a great place to have a few beers
Is_it - 31 Jan 2005 13:59
What a great place, now its open til midnight every weekend.
anonymous - 28 Jan 2005 18:23
......and there is fit barmen here...yum :)
jojo_r - 14 Jan 2005 21:14
Staines best bar of the moment, utterly charver free.
MrG - 6 Jan 2005 11:27
I too went here New Year's Eve. Good selection of lager and ladies. Lager certainly works, had a hangover from hell the next day. There was a DJ, but I've heard that was a one off. No attitude in there, and Bouncers seemed human (makes a change).
Rich1977 - 5 Jan 2005 14:02
I went here for NYE last night and it was brill. Wasn't to sure of the idea at first as i thought of it as more as a starting off place not an all nighter...how wrong was i !!!.
The took out some table and chairs to create a dancefloor and it was a brill night, the best one i have had in ages...the only problem was it shut at half one and I wnated more....so ended up in cheekys (not gud idea)

As for the doormen, well i have never had a problem with them, very friendly.

I will def be going back, last night changed my opinion of the place.
jojo_r - 1 Jan 2005 19:04
never been in here..... always put of by the leering doormen. horrid.
lover - 19 Nov 2004 02:02
The best new addition to "Downtown Staines".

As mentioned previously, quiet, relaxed, laid-back, wide range of clientelle, friendly and attentive staff (I've never been left long at the bar waiting for a drink -- even if there's a queue, I'm acknowledged by the staff).

Sounds like an "oldies" pub, doesn't it. Nope! It's frequented by lots of younger peeps, too.

Good balance!

Along with the Bells, this gets my vote for the best in the area.

Even the Guinness is well-kept!
Stu - 8 Oct 2004 18:06
best value food cool service PJ top man

beeje - 20 Aug 2004 12:41
Baroosh is something new & great for staines, we do have HaHa bar but the service in baroosh far better, you feel relax and at home here. Everytime i go to the bar Phil(philos) and Hannah always remember my name & drink, so friendly. The menu is based on standard bar food but with a special touch. The price are alittle high but well worth it, best fosters in staines. The only improvement i would make is to have a later opening times at the weekend. Well done to all the guys at Baroosh, and Phil don't go to Uxbridge, who is going to serve me my Tuaca shots......
Pete - 20 Aug 2004 11:43
Staines really needs more bars like this and Ha Ha. Maybe then we can all look forward to evenings out being completeley charver free.
Si - 18 Aug 2004 15:47
Very laid back with sofas big enough to live in. High end prices keep the charvers away, and they also have a nice menu for lunch or bar snacks. Good for a social few, but not the venue to get hammered.
Zod - 19 Jul 2004 15:04
Took a while to warm up after opening, but now attracts a chilled, intelligent, upmarket but unpretentious crowd. Slightly pricey, but worth it for good service, strict door policy, no TVs and decent background music that stays in the background. Lovely, basically.
Mr Anderson - 23 Jun 2004 11:38
Good Food & Drink, again a CFZ (Charver Free Zone) because of the slightly over-priced drinks.
