user reviews of the Swan, Wantage

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Some really well kept & interesting ales. Liking the happy hour prices and Sunday deal for ales.

Gets packed at the weekend but seems to be very well controlled - definitely the most popular late night venue in the town.

Shame about the yard - it could be really lovely but seems to be just for smokers. Hide the bins, get some more furniture and cut down the massive tree that all the pigeons sit in and shit in your pint!

Overall though it's a nice place and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Repeat business - definitely.

Have been here quite a bit recently and noticed they're offering a good little selection of real ales and the odd cider which appear to change often.
Good pub for a night out; live bands play fairly often or you can have a bop in the disco upstairs which also has a little bar.
I like the fact I can buy a good pint in here after the decent pubs in Wantage have closed on a Friday or Saturday night.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon, pretty quiet, but I think that the Grand National was on the telly in the back. Decent pint of Best Mates Vicars daughter served pleasantly in good condition. The Juke Box was a bit loud with only a couple of others in the bar but I enjoyed the pub in a rugged sort of way. I'd go back when I'm next in Wantage.

Duke Box is spelt with a "J". Indeed the Lochness Monster has left a vacant milk churn.

Occasionally has some interesting real ale.

Cocktails are their speciality.

Don't get too giddy in the Swan or you may have to deal with the rather large Landlord.

Well run pub, give it a try.

I take it that Lucifer_Chaple owns the Swan.

Best pub around by miles. Happy hour is 4-7 and this means 2 for any 1 shot + coke / lemonade or 2 for and pint of beer, lager or stout. 3 for any coctail.

Juke Box has some great tracks including Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Guns and Roses, Kid Rock, Anthrax, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Motorhead, Clash and much more. The 'Happy Hour' crew are great. Stewie, Steve, Les, Myself, King Alfred (Ian) and the rest of the bunch are to be expected to be spotted at 4:00PM for opening.

...4:00PM can be a long time to wait mind, I'd rather the pun opened before, but hey, they're doing well as they are. The back bar can get full of 'casual' customers, and I expect the upstairs will be full of the 'Blakes' lot. The front bar is the 'rock n roll' side of the bar. At weekends it can get packed, but knowing everyone in Wantage helps. Sometimes people can dress the Swan up, but at heart it always has been and always will be a rocker bar. Crisps are free too!!!

...Can't wait till they start serving grub. If you're visiting Wantage CHECK OUT THE SWAN! Where you like some crazy coctail or a spirt or lager, stout or ale, this pub will cater for your needs.

Has re-opened. Reasonable effort so far. Bogs still need attention. Good happy hour deals (4 - 7).

No longer any music of any sort toilets are a health hazard to sat the least beer a bit pricey and has'nt a late licsense

Its spit and sawdust and doesnt pretend to be anything else. The drink is cheap, the entertainment is rock and roll and the atmosphere is fun. A great place for anyone who was born before 1970.
