Run by a mother and daughter team these days and as someone said earlier it's so "cliquey" You're made to feel totally un-welcome when you walk in. I went in there a few Sundays ago and the mother was at the other end of the bar chatting with about 5-6 of her chosen few. She dragged herself down to serve me without a word, just looked at me, gave me my drink, took my money gave me change and cruised off to the other bar again. When I wanted another I got a look that seemed to say " Oh God, are you still here."

I don't see how they can be making it pay as it's often empty even at week ends. The only time it's crowded is if they've got an event there. A village pub should be buzzing, at least at week ends.

We had a lovely welcome both times we visited recently, and good food. I'd recommend it.

A good pub spoilt by a second takeover. It should never have left Gills hands in the first place. However it is now in the same league as the Ivy Leaf and has a clicky clientele. An uncomfortable welcome awaits with heads turning as you walk in. Shame as it was once a lively and fun pub. A lot of hard work has gone in but it's missing the 'x' factor.

I have to reply to the comment made by oxbow.daddy on Nov 12 as I totally disagree that the pub is run by a family with ""the biggest pocket!!" I can absolutely assure you that this is not the case at all!! Gill has worked so hard over the past months to bring The Plough into the 21st century - she has worked tireslessly, often from the start of the day to closing time. She has 'ploughed' (sorry- pun intended) her efforts, care and commitment into this pub and she certainly has NOT got endless supplies of money. Indeed it is totally the opposite - she has put in every penny to a venture that she wanted so badly that she cannot afford to even run a car!! Gill and her family were running the pub some years ago and, unfortunately, they lost control to another set of managers. The Moulden family then worked so hard and made such amazing sacrifices that they have my unswerving respect and admiration for their efforts. Perhaps if oxbow.daddy was aware of the circumstances surrounding their mammoth determination to get their pub to the present high standard then he would be commenting on a more positive note. Obviously, for 'a village where everyone seems to know everyone else's business' (your quote I think) you are obviously blissfully unaware of their momentous hard work for the past year. Not, I repeat, made possible by an endless amount of cash but an endless amount of grit and hard work! So come along and support one of your local pubs who have recently been nominated for the Chronicle Pub of the Year!!! Perhaps the readers of this local paper know a thing or two?????

This is a nice enough pub for a vilage were everyone seems to know everyone else's business... The locals are generally friendly and the beer and food of a good quality, however, with only one other pub now remaining in the area, this pub could be really good but it seems to be that there is an issue with Green King, who only seem to be interested in hiring the management with the biggest pockets rather than those who would give the pub the biggest boost.

The Plough is an extremely friendly, community pub where you are greeted to a welcome worthy of an episode of 'Cheers' I understand that someone else out there had a different, and quite negative, opinion but Ihave to say that in our view we have always been to be made to feel at ease. Their food is excellent and the only pub in the area where I could have happily eaten my way through the entire menu! They have beautiful grounds, a child friendly play area, a petanque piste, and a lovely sheltered patio area to enjoy our sweltering summer weather!!!! I suggest that you come along and enjoy this pub and the company of warm, professional staff. Bring a smile with you and you will see it returned ten-fold. We have lived in many different places in the past but for the last 12 years we have been proud to call it our 'local' and we are sure it will remain so for many years to come.

I live in Langford, and the comments made above surprise me. I've popped in to The Plough probably a couple of dozen times over the last ten years, and whichever management and staff team has been in situ, have all the had the same " We couldn't care less if we serve you or not" attitude. I drive past it every night of the week, at times varying from 1900 to 2300, an have never seen more than half a dozen people in there, something not helped by the fact that it often closes early

It is a lovely pub, but totally devoid of atmosphere.

With the right management team, it could be fabulous

If you've been avoiding the Plough it's now time to return. The new management have made a huge difference and the pub is now producing excellent food at really good prices. An average price for a fantastic (hearty) lunchtime meal is around 5 to 6 and portions are on the large size. They also do snacks such as cheese on toast and have a good children's menu. We will be back as this pub is once again somewhere where we would like to spend some time. (The puddings are great too btw!). Highly recommended and worth a visit if you find yourself in the vicinity.

Pub nice but food very disappointing.

The pub is now up for sale, so not sure what is going to happen with it now.

A little over priced, but changes are being made. Frendly staff and frendly locals. Great Atmosphere, homely, walm, calming and peaceful. Huge Garden with childrens play area and bouls area, inside and outside seating. Smoking and non-smoking area soon to change with the owner currently making an outside smoking area. Has the resources to be made into an outstanding pub!

Went and ate there today.

New chef but food still disappointing unfortunately.

I used to visit this pub regularly and the food was fantastic but I haven't been since my last meal, a couple of months ago, which was not up to standard. We did complain and asked whether there was a different chef but were not told about the new ownership and not offered any money off the bill. The pub is a lot quieter now than it used to be. I hope it is just teething problems but have to say that the friendliness and charm has been lost somewhat recently.

Again the owners have changed hands, unfortunatly my Mother and friends went for Xmas dinner there and they said it was over-priced and not cooked properly, the turkey was dry and the rest of the food looked like it at come out of a packet. They complained and got some money knocked off the final bill.

Hybrid restaurant pub thingy that neither excites or offends. Food is good and a step above the norm. Large garden and friendly locals. Just can't imagine spending the whole day propping up the bar.
Mr_Local - 8 Dec 2006 12:01
Also want to add this pub accepts most credit cards, it does a sunday roast for 7.50 and has a large non smoking section. Accommodation available i think 20 a night.
Carl1982 - 20 Jan 2006 21:32
had a nice drink here today was peaceful, never knew there was accommodation at this pub.

new owners have now took over and i say there's a noticeable improvement all round, now is a place worthy to have a drink and relax, also the food is cheaper now
Carl1982 - 19 Sep 2005 12:09
Really nice interior with separate non-smoking areas, think the new landlords have improved this place as prices are more reasonable, food served is varied and good value, good lunch time menu especially, great garden, friendly staff, very pleasant.

Very expensive for food, especially at christmas and other special occasions, nice looking pub in a nice village, but quite a bit over-priced
Carl1982 - 18 Aug 2005 17:03
Agree with previous comments. However, at lunchtimes it always seems to be empty!

Don't understand why, since it's a pleasant place to eat and drink, with an attentive landlady and landlord.

Lovely pub, really been turned around by new landlords.

Fantastic food, friendly service, and a very friendly atmosphere too. Huge garden, and they've just put up a marquee. Nothing like it for miles around. Definitely recommended.
