Hasn't been in the GBG since 2006. But this was one of the better and seemingly very popular pubs we'd tried during the day. Walking in shortly before 9pm, tables were extremely difficult to come by, as most were still reserved for diners yet to arrive. Castle Rock Harvest Pale, Cottage DB5, Acorn Ollie's Army and Marstons Pedigree were the 4 real ales available. Plenty of old pumpclips in the bar area indicated the range of real ales they have had. The garden outside had a set of swings. So this is possibly frequented by families during the day. However, on a Saturday evening, a much more mature clientele were present. We quite enjoyed people watching as an endless stream of people came in and out. Worth a vist and worth a place in the GBG. The food looked good and the menu appeared creative. But prices were steep.

Great place for a meal or just a good pint! Competent staff who clearly care make a lovely atmosphere. Choice of real ales on Sat included Kelham Pale Rider, Bradfield Farmers and Oakham Stairway to Heaven; therefore only reason it drops a point is that it was short of a dark ale. But the beers on were in fine form, how come this place is not GBG?
We had an evening meal and found the choice excellent. Before we left all the specials had gone! Starters c�5 included less usual options such as belly pork, and the mains, which were generous and not expensive, included a very good duck breast, marlin with prawns, as well as steaks, chicken supreme and rack of lamb.
Seek this pub out if you are in the area (its not far off MI J27).

Passed this pub on the way to a local rival establishment and seeing the car park full decided to try it if I was ever in the area again. Well I was today and I did try it. A very well organised and cared for pub, children in the play area, drinkers in the bar and eaters in the busy dining room and everybody happy on a sunny summers day. Real ales, a good range and well kept. Food, not an extensive menu but some interesting specials.

Went for a meal tonight (11/09/06) and there was a hot blonde waitressing. Will have to go more often!

I have been going to this pub for the past 20yrs the food has always been great espesially home cooked Sunday Lunch keep trying to beat it but always end up Disapointed 10/10

A lovely little country pub in what is part of "D H Lawrence" country. I didn't see any lusty gamekeepers but was turned on by the sight of one of my own illicit lovers - namely Timothy Taylors Landlord. This was accompanied by 2 or 3 other real ales. They serve large portions of well-priced pub food.
