Not too bad, good for a game of football on the big screen, great pizza but overpriced(such is ireland), recently opened a nightclub upstairs, if your looking for a nice quiet empty nightclub this is the one for you !

I've visited 3 times, each a new experience. Traditional dancing, music, good food and warm memories. Only 8 of 10 because the setting isn't very "traditional" There are pubs around Seattle which are warmer. (I've visited 21 in Ireland and at least 40? more around the world) Still and all, Monroe's is on my short list of pubs in the world to revisit. Long live Monroe's!

best pub in galway. The guy running it,fergus was very nice and friendly as well as the rest of the staff. The music was geat and there was a terrific athmosphere in the place. I found the bar food itself was great, except, for the pizzas. overall this is a great pub and will go there next time in glaway.

i too had a similar experience in the last fortnight, i ordered a pizza with no onion, it came with onion, i complained, and when they brought my pizza back all they had done was pick the onion off the top, it was still full of them, i could have done that myself! and would have preferred that to be honest than someones fingers picking through my food. the last time i will eat there

i would avoid food here, i ordered a vegitarian pasta which they made with bacon by mistake, then rather than make a fresh dish they picked the bacon out, an da few bites in i was finding bits, disgusting and insulting.

This place has much improved in the last year or so. I wouldn't spend the night there but having a couple of pints & a pizza is a great hour spent.

Drink prices have dropped to standard for Galway

There is no price hike throughout the day and there is no cover charge for entry

Any more shock announcements Gill_Scott....?
Good luck to the new management.
I heard rumours about the take over that I won't reveal on this site.
If you want to make money in Monroes, read my comments below and take note. Furthermore. The place is a goldmine if you get good staff and look after them. This is something the Monroes could never achive.

I'm not a huge fan of this place to be honest, it's a very tourist oriented pub. It seems geared to make money rather than making you feel welcome & comfortable there, as a result there aren't many regulars. There's music every night, mainly Irish traditional, which is fair enough, but a little variety wouldn't go astray. A particular bone of contention is that when they have sporting events on they have a very blurry big screen down the back (as mentioned by The Inspector) and normal TVs in the front. So what you might think, the problem is that one will show sattelite pictures, the others terrestrial, this results in them being out of synch, which is maddening when, for instance, a goal is scored in football. But that's a minor thing . The staff are impossible to describe as there seems to be new staff there on every visit, which is worrying. The toilets could do with being cleaned on a more frequent basis. On the plus side, the food's good, get a pizza. The drink's grand, but pricey. In general I would avoid this particular watering hole.
