I did have a meal here a couple years ago and found food average but over priced went back today (23/7/2012)to see if food prices had changed,
First thing it's a Fullers of London owned pub so only there beers,I was amazed to charged �3:80 for a pint of 4:5 % beer other lower strength beers �3:65 so declined eating there.
Monday between 7pm- 10pm half price on food but you should book and confirm offer.
Building it self has lots of character and you pay a premium to eat and drink there.

Beautiful quaint old cosy pub set on a quiet road. The main bar area is set in the original part of the building and is crammed with rustic beams (some of which are a bit low, so mind your head!), old floorboards and usually a few old locals as well - many of whom bring their dogs. However, there's a nice atmosphere, you won't feel unwelcome.
This pub was refurbished a couple of years back, and they have a done a good job with the decor, as it has a slightly contemporary feel to it. The restaurant is also very nice and whilst the food is on the expensive side (starters are on average �5.00, mains �12), the quality is usually very good and the service has been great every time I've eaten here. The drinks are also pretty pricey, but if you like the surroundings, it's worth it - I hate pubs full of noisy youngsters and you certainly won't find any here!

My family and I went to this hostelry on Easter Day for what should have been an enjoyable family Sunday lunch. Things didn't get off to a great start when they refused to serve my 21 year old daughter with a glass of wine to accompany her meal. In addition, no bread was served with my mother's soup, the main dish meats were cold, the roast potatoes were rock hard and the vegetable seriously over-cooked. Not impressed. Try the White Horse in Eaton Bray or one of the fine restaurants in Woburn instead.

We went to the Five Bells with a little trepidation, having had a rather mediocre experience one evening after the pub had changed hands a few years back, but we were pleasantly surprised by our Sunday lunch.
The waitress said it was unusually quiet - the previous weekend they were fully booked, but on this occasion only half of the tables were occupied. Service was quick and efficient and friendly, food was generally good and the bill was perfectly acceptable.
Risotto starter was nicely creamy, bubble & squeak came with black pudding and was declared delicious, and the split pea & ham soup was thick and tasty, garnished with a slice of french bread and big chunks of ham on the top. We also tried the bread selection which was fresh and came with a dipping bowl of olive oil & balsamic vinegar. Main course portions were very generously sized and overall tasty, although the roast beef was rather overcooked. At first sight the children's menu looked like a bit of an after-thought, but the fish & ships was pronounced tasty and the pasta sauce not too strong, so it got a thumbs up. Desserts were really good, with sticky toffee pudding getting the vote - lovely flavour and not too heavy. Coffee was hot and strong, which was a nice surprise as I've had many a lukewarm, tasteless pub coffee in the past. All in all a good place for a family meal, nothing fancy, just good food in a pleasant atmosphere.

Nice pub/restaurant. Bar area is a bit pokey (and a little dangerous if you're tall and tipsy)
Food is good - excellently poached haddock, but need to practice on the creme brulee a bit more, lads!
Ideal 'family meal out' venue (massive secure garden to chuck the kids into)

Nice big pub with old fashioned pretensions. Very good cask beer,well kept and the service was attentive and quick.
Frequented by local businessmen mainly but still open and large enough to enjoy. Food looks good,good portions but overcooked. Very large restaurant great for wedding receptions but left virtually empty most of the time.
Large back garden,handy for summer.

A bit off the beaten track, but tried this place on Saturday (11th) 6-7pm. Very typical English country pub. Good beer (Fullers Pride & ESB). Didn't have time to check out the food though. Very peaceful & relaxing sitting outside in the sun.

This place might be just about acceptable if I didn't remember it under previous management when the highest standards were the norm. Now it's tacky by comparison. It's probably aimed at a younger clientele and may be doing well enough for the company accountants, but I shall never go there again.
