Has the best bar staff in the area, and great characters to sit and chat to. If you want an unbelievably friendly and fantastic service. ASK FOR CHRIS. and tell him Raph Reccomended him.

LOVE THE PLACE.
have also played music there every sunday for a long time, and the reception is great.

Stumbled in here the other night; a very odd and not very nice place. No real ale at all, and very little in the way of pumps at all at the bar. Odd decor which looked rather temporary and empty apart from a cluster of people playing some sort of pool tournament. More a youth club than a pub, and not a very nice youth club at that. Don't bother.

Great "little" boozer, with plenty of "Characters" to talk to and mingle with, who do not become offended at the attempt to converse with them. Unlike other poncy joints locally. Shame there is no real ale though

This pub never quite recovered from the closure of the nearby Christ's College boys' school, which at one time provided huge crowds of underage drinkers plus the occasional alcoholic schoolmaster.

Ironically, the same school was founded in 1857 by a local vicar who wanted to stop the land being purchased by the landlord of the Queen's Head, or so legend has it.

It was also known as a bikers' pub although by the late 80s this clientele had been reduced to just one, the notorious 'Fat Bloke' of blessed memory.

It now has a rather creepy, post-apocalyptic feel to it. It is always empty, dusty and with most of the beer 'off' as well as the staff. Recently I ventured in on Saturday night and there were only two other drinkers there, and I think they may have been the barstaff having a fag break.

Dingy and vast. No real ale (despite 8 hand pumps on two bars and a fading sign outside saying "real ales").

No sign of any refurb, beyond the outside being partially repaionted a few months ago. This is a run-down pub-company-owned can't-be-bothered sort of place that could be so much more.

Sad.

Interesting Fact about the Queen's Head: this used to be one of Emma Bunton's regular haunts before she became Baby Spice. So a bloke who plays darts with her Dad tells me, anyway.

UPDATE yesterday went in, no longer ale . manager/owner says that it is being re-furbed in september . enquired what form that this would take ensured 'it's not going trendy, it'll be the same old dirty wallpaper, just new dirty, old wallpaper, i'm a strong believer in proper pubs ' i can't help my scepticisn, it takes very, very little to destroy a pubs traditional nature and atmosphere, the odd brown leather couch here, the odd tall, small, round table there . fingers crossed .

this is the only so-to-speak real pub in the whole of finchley central, no gimmick, no theme, no slant, no pine, no stainless steel, no chrome, no brown leather couches, just a pub pub . has recently started selling London Pride after over a year of being keg-only . let's hope that this one remaining real pub in N.3. remains, and remains free of a re-furb-job or poncification .
