Very definitely closed - it's now a Tesco's.

CLOSED! Not expected to reopen.

Visited this pub last March 2011. Quite a nasty place to be honest, terrible wine but the worst thing about it was the clientele, it was beyond chavvy. The locals seemed friendly enough but I had the impression it could turn nasty at any moment with a wrong word or look and the toilets were shocking. I hope it's improved but I'm wary to return and would instead recommend the Alexandra down the road, a friendly and welcoming traditional boozer with a decent smoking area.

The new landlady Ursula and her team esp Neal should be so proud, they have turned this pub around, it is now a nice ,friendly enjoyable place to drink. There is a good choice of entertainment on selected evenings and always a good atmosphere.

Less ales than before and the Youngs Bitter was quite disgusting. Despite several customers complaining they still kept selling it. A good way to alienate customers.

Reasonable drinking venue with quite a few real ales on. Slightly dated feel to the pub.

Well, went back to this pub about 3 years after my previous review, and I can say that it has changed. Unfortunately though, not for the better. Seems strange that it has the cask marque, but still can't keep its ale, TEA is now awful, when it used to be 'ok'. The clientle are fine, apart from the family of coke-heads who generally are off their faces. sad really, it could be a much better pub, though that could be said about most of the pubs in Farnborough. I used to give this boozer a 5, now its a Farnborough 3, and a UK wide 1, awful.

Cask Marque approved pub with an old looking interior in a big open plan room. The bar is stiff with hand pumps, 11 I believe, with 4 or 5 ales on sale from Fullers, Bass and Hogsback. This promises much but sadly on this occasion it did not deliver. My first pint was thick, cloudy and definitely smelling of acetic acid. This was instantly and graciously exchanged for a second pint but although better still not really up to much. I held my nose and finished it but suffered badly as a result the next day. Comfortable and spacious with old beams and tudor brickwork. Friendly enough and lively although some customers looked like they'd been there since morning opening time, - God knows why. A visit that demonstrated why keg beer was invented.

Popped in for a quick beer on a weekday night, decent lager and wine and friendly enough bar staff, although the locals did seem to check us out as we both walked in and left. Wouldn't stop me from going back again though.

A decent boozer with friendly barstaff and a good atmosphere, which is sadly marred by the cliquey behaviour of some of the locals. Worth sticking your head round the door for a quick pint though!

Used to love this pub. Was a great local when I lived in Farnborough. Popped in to watch a footie game as I had fond memories of the place. Unfortunately it seems to have gone downhill in the last couple of years. Racist chanting 'Paki scored a goal' when Babel (Dutch) scored was just quite sad. Won't be going back.

Good olde pub.

A decent local. Good quiz on Tuesday nights. Never been served a bad pint, but service can be slow on a busy Friday or Saturday night. Dart board (tiny area and board could use replacing) and fruit machines. Other clubs/activities there too.

I wouldn't call the place rough, but clearly a bit of an element remains - overheard a punter's conversation about a stolen motorbike a couple weeks ago. It also seems to be the place for builders to rub elbows in the late afternoons.

Yes, good pub, but beware! The service can be dreadfully slow on Saturday lunchtimes. Similarly, on weekday afternoons bar staff will think nothing of leaving customers waiting at the bar while they go outside for a cigarette. An unmanned bar is a bad comment on management.

One of the better pubs in Farnborough (though in fairness there's not a great deal of competition!). Good reasonably priced food and a good range of well kept beers, though they do tend to be a little overpriced. In fact, the beers are probably the most expensive - along with the "Thatched Cottage" - in Farnborough. For example, there is a massive difference of 25p a pint of Stella between here and the Ham & Blackbird.

The "Courthouse" barstaff are generally pleasant and helpful, but I'd pick out Katrina ("Kat"), who works weekday lunchtimes for special mention. In an age when one is lucky to even be greeted by barstaff, Kat makes a point of acknowledging customers even when she is busy serving. Just a little touch, but the discerning customer really appreciates a simple "I'll be with you as quickly as I can". Bar staff take note!

Attitude can be somewhat brusque at closing time, which is bloody irritating if you've just spent the evening putting a lot of money into the till!

Overall, a good pub worth visiting, though like so many pubs these days there's very little atmosphere and it can be clicquish.

A decent boozer. Nothing fancy, but the people are friendly with a good few characters. Steer clear of the pub opposite though.

Rumours suggest the beer here isnt that good. Ugly rumours perhaps! and i am not even talking about the band Tony Blair used 2 be in. Still good beer. And good atmosphere

Umm, what can I say about this abonimation of a boozer? Well, been in here a few times since it opened under the new moniker many years ago now. It has actually got a lot better in the past few years now all the scum has been booted out, still a dump mind. Still, it does serve some 'decent' ale, bar TEA which is always good. It does need to watch it's glass policy, the TEA glasses tend to go walkabout, normally to my folks draining board to be discovered with glee the following morning! It does need a face lift and some decent bar-tends, one girl took nearly 20 mins to furnish me with a round two weeks ago, she had some problem with double Cinzano and lemonade? I've forgotten why she was so bad, oh hang on, it's back to me now, she couldn't speak a word of English, that was it! In Farnborough pub scores I'll give it a 5, on the whole though it'd be a 2

Actually seems to be a very multi-generational pub. Whatever your age, you are likely to enjoy this pub, unless you are one of these people who try to start fights in which case you're wasting your time. This pub is too good for that. Sells Bass and IPA

This is a good pub. Friendly atmosphere and a very good selection of beers available. Not all the people seem old here as hengist suggests
aleman - 6 Nov 2005 01:46
I've been here a few times with friends as it has nice relaxed atmosphere which is just what you want to enjoy your beer. Had a good New Years party there and it's good to see they have Hogs Back Brewery Traditional English Ale(TEA) on tap. I can't comment on any food they have there 'cos I've never had any myself but it would also be great to some more entertainment there like karaoke, quiz nights etc...
wezmiester - 26 Feb 2005 11:54
Not a bad pub but too many old people, its like an olod peoples home at times.
hengist - 27 Nov 2004 23:27
Not a bad place, although the beer is a little on the pricey side. Large screen TV with Sky for those who like that sort of thing. A nice friendly place. Worth a visit.
