user reviews of the Who'd Have Thought It, Milton Combe

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I'm amazed that very few of the previous reviewers on this site have mentioned the pub building itself which is the star of the show - a 17th century former farmhouse in a delightful village which was originally on a 2-room-and-through-passage plan but now with subsequent additions and alterations and full of the usual features associated with a pub of this age. I tried a pint of Mew Stone by Noss Beer Works which lacked a little condition but was just above average. I didn't try the Exmoor Islander or the Jail Ale (ubiquitous in this part of Devon) but could easily have stayed here longer to do so.

Last year had a chicken curry here...but no chicken just vegetables and a little cut up sausagey thing as meat, but at least they did not charge for my meal.Been visiting for over 35 years ,missed the young couple that ran it who had recently left and had been serving excellent fare.

Lovely old pub, filled with atmosphere. All 3 ales were in excellent condition. Lunch and dinner(s) sampled over 2 days were excellent too. Not pretentious at all and local drinkers and dogs were friendly too.

It makes a nice change to have a decent choice of real ales than just St Austell beers.
The food menu was also different. I did not see the usual pub grub and was slightly limited for choice.
Various brunches around 8 or roast type meals 12.
I didn't feel a family of four would all find something to their liking.

An excellent pub, well worth a trip. The pub is cosy and the beers are well kept. However the real star is the food. Unpretentious pub food, executed brilliantly. The Sunday lunch is one of the best I've had in a pub. The meat is local, and very tasty, while the veg - all too often the downfall of a pub roast - is a highlight. I've been there and eaten on a couple of other occasions, and they were also excellent, with dishes such as steak and stout suet pudding hitting the spot.
Beers include Dartmoor Legend and Bays Gold.

I visit this lovely pub whenever I go down to see relatives in Devon. They have three real ales on, one is always a Skinner's Ale (which is my favourite Cornish brewery). On my last two visits they had the Heligan Honey and on a second visit it was Betty Stoggs. They also had the delicious amber Princetown Jail Ale and Sharps Doom Bar. Friendly staff too; they do meals but it is the quality of the well kept ales that is the real bonus for me.

Salvation! Milton Combe is about to have a happy christmas. The pub we loved and thought we'd lost has been refurbished and reopened with new owners Chris and Ruth. Dogs are welcome..not the ones that crap indoors!. The food is good, best of all, the beer is back to it's sparkling best. The settees that had become a feature of the bar are gone and I'm delighted to say the pub looks and feels like a pub.

Have family in the village and the Pub was always an imporant part of the Village. Since new ownership noone goes and when we were last there the pub landlord's dog had shit on the seats and the staff just didin't remove it. Shame as this was a great pub. All I hope is that the landlords make no money and get it changed so we can have our local back.

Love pub at the foot of a valley, just sort of the Drive Tavy on the moor. Very good food day and night, but shame that the bar staff are so slow. But it's not London so what do you expect. Love the Place. Jail Ale is the best pint.
