user reviews of the Kings Head, Hornchurch

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

It's discgraceful that a listed building like this, whatever you may think of the pub, could be spattered with revolting signage for yet another pizza chain and 400 years of history sold to the highest bidder. Sadly that was the last pub in central Hornchurch that hadn't had the chain treatment and I, for one, will miss it.

My Grandad always use to drink in this pub. He died last xmas. Its such a shame to see it close. I can no longer go in there and enjoy a drink with grandad. It will be missed by a lot of people

in a way it will be sorry to see this pub go, as hornchurch has lost 2 pubs in the last year (llyods and the kings head) may not be the best pubs in the world but they offer the things i like , beer and a good atmosphere , , in other ways the bar staff left a lot to be desired at times , but that was my only ever niggle with the kings , normally served a good pint , had a nice varied selection and was a proper old school pub , many a crawl round hornchurch has ended up here and it will be sorely missed .
who knows what the pizza place may be , still be over inflated beer prices (not my words read previous previous comment) but hey

Looking forwards to my first Pizza and pint. Glad this pub has sold. Shame that its not staying a pub, but the landlord has been ripping us off with over inflated beer prices for ages

I occasionally pop in here over the weekends as it is a decent old traditional pub and you can always have a seat and a good chat but the service and prices are shocking . I went in there this weekend and asked for a Carling extra cold and a redbull . The bar lady started serving me Guiness extra cold and when i pointed out i wanted a Carling she said that i asked for a guiness with reall attitude in her voice then she tutt at me . After all this she then charged me around 5 ( 4.70 i think ) which is the sort of price that pubs in Canary Wharf where i work charge which i think is so expensive . Every other pub in Hornchurch is cheaper . The bar staff are elderly as well and serve all the regulars before you and i once told the bar maid that she hads ignored me after i was waiting 20 minutes and she said that she was busy but as soon as a regular came in she shouted her name and served him straight away . If you dont mind paying over the top prices and being abused and ignored by the bar staff , then this pub is for you . Actually , after writing thsi im not sure why i pop in ther for a pleasent pint after all

Good "old-school" pub and the only one for miles that serves tankards.

"So many tankards so many times"

When I visited it was a mixed, friendly crowd.
Prices are a wee bit high i suppose but not quite at break the bank point.

Mmm I have seen Bud on tap in five different Hornchurch pubs. The Kings is dark, smokey and certainly over priced for what it is. This is not a Central London pub, but the prices here are more expensive than in Central London. In fact I think that are more expensive than the Harrow, so get a bank loan before coming here.

nice little pub , being a hornchurch lad this is one of my prefered pubs , good beer n nice atmosphere , the staffs attitude could be improved towards younger people like myself , but i would rate this as my number 2 pub in hornchurch , and as someone else mentioned they serve bud on tap , only place in hornchurch apart from llyods .
well worth a visit

Also serve Bud on tap

Great little pub.. very warm and welcoming.. when I went there I didnt want to leave. They had such a great choice of ales and lagers to choose from I was in heaven.. This Pub really is Superbe and it's one of a few traditional pubs left in Hornchurch.. Thumbs Up

Decent atmosphere. No music. Too packed on Friday and Saturday nights. Good range of ales, lagers and optics.

This is an Olde World style pub, with good bar staff and an unfriendly landlord. He doesn't care for his customers, only his profits. Over priced beer, frequently flat. Glasses usually smudged with lipstick. Gets busy on Fri and Sat nights. Always hot and smokey. Could do with decorating and air conditioning, but old deep pockets won't go that far! Friendly locals, though a big crowd have recently departed for better pastures new, because of the landlords "Double standards" and lack of interest in those long serving customers who pay his wages! Hence the recent 10p a pint price rise, to cover his recent losses!!!!!

Really low ceiling, nice and dark.. never got drunk here but I bet it would be conducive to doing so.
Good for: escaping from the cold on a winters afternoon.
