At the weekend Denzil and Leroy barricade the door as if minding a C list celebrity from invasive photographers, if you manage get in, the crushing sight of pug-faced estate agents and unhappy office workers out for a big one in Shoreditch is enough to bring anyone to tears.
A bizarre assortment of rude 35 year old bar staff simply add to the misery. Threes a blackboard with specials on, overpriced eastern European larger and a foul whiff of weatherspoons

This pubs beer has got a lot better, they obviosly read this site! :-)
Stunning little Geordie??? girl behind the bar.

Quite a nice pub, with a few different seating sections within it. It's bustling at the weekend, but not rammed - it's possible to get a table and be served at the bar within a minute, which are the main things really. The menu looks quite appealing and I was sorry to have arrived just a few minutes after the kitchen closed.

Decent pub near Old St Station. The menu is a bit pretentious and pricy. Good range of beers on draught, Czech lagers, Belgian beers and three handpumps.

I spent an evening at The Reliance last week. I started on the Rosey Nosey (pretty good), then had a pint of London Pride (not great) and then finished with the Broadside (no complaints at all).
As I only had three beers I cannot really support or refute the claims (see below) that the beer at this pub is poor. Of the three different ales I tried, two were good and one was a little below average.
The beer did seem a little expensive but the selection (particularly bottled) is good.
The Reliance it a strange little pub, but one which is charming in a bizarre way. The staff seem a little odd too, but I wouldn't mind going back if I were in the area.

The beer in this place is absolutley minging!
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO CLEAN THE LINES???????
Barstaff are obviously heavily into drugs or as suggested below are sedated,or maybe they've drunk too much of their own beer, that's enough to rot anyone's brain.
Council/hygiene officials should be called about the state of the beer.I for one will be getting in touch with trading standards.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Nice looking pub although they seem stoned/sedated!
The manageress is a gorgeous little scottish woman with eyes to die for and the food is pretty good.Sadly thats all this pub has,the beer is way overpriced and out of 3 different pints I tried all were off/stale and did not smell very nice.
Recommend a good line cleaning session to sort your beer out.

Skinny jeans with optional trilby for the lads, ironic 80's fashion for the ladies. The usual 'shabby chic' Shoreditch pub. Not too up its own arse though, and could be rather nice, but the beer is absolutely rank - clean the pipes out properly! My Litovel had me literally foaming at the mouth, and my pal's Carling was just the same. Shame

Decent-ish pub, made by its cracking jukebox (generally indie music and 1960s / 1970s soul), although the upstairs section feels like an attic that needs clearing out. Still, not many pubs provide the opportunity to hear Johnny Cash on a Friday night.

The drink in this place is absolutely rotten.
My boyfriend was served with the worst pint of Guinness in history - so bad he couldn't bear to drink it (that's saying something as he's a borderline alcoholic).
The staff were friendly enough, but a tad simple, either that or heavily sedated.
The food was absolutely rank. The chicken wings were in fact not wings at all, but an unidentifiable peice of chicken which resembled a pigeon from Bruce Grove Bridge.
With so many bars and pubs to choose from in Old Street, I'd give this kip a miss.

Nice looking pub, with a nice looking clientelle (?), but my pint was sour.
|
seems quite a pleasant and relaxed place, but definitely pricey. i had a guest ale, horndean best mild for £3.10. The most expensive beer on the list were leffe blond and litovel (sic): 4.80 a pint!

nothing much changes here, ales now from Fullers - though quality is still pretty crap (and prices are daylight robbery) Continental beer choices look far more appealing. Food menu does not tempt - read JD wetherpsoon + 100% mark up. Quite a disappointment overall.

REALLY expensive for what it is.

Just came back from lunch there, I'm not sure that I'd call it "unpretentious", it prety much goes all out for that. They have hand scanners for the bar staff that they scan little bar-codes built into the bar for your drink order.
Staff friendly, but pretty expensive for average beer. Couple of beers were over £6. Maybe they're trying to get the money back from the keyring barcode scanners.
The decorations in the place are trying to be laid back but come out slightly run down looking, toilets are usable but not very clean.
An interesting place for a drink if you've not been down there before, but not somewhere you'd call a great bar.
I went on a Wed, at about 12:30.

Recommended. Happy atmosphere, the result of an unpretentious but characterful place populated by seemingly happy people. Could quite happily have settled down in the couch at the back and commenced a spontaneous Leo Sayer. My companion had other ideas. This can't have been to do with the pub, so I can only blame my company. Nadgers. (Unusual Czech lager on tap, mild and strong versions).

Nice interior, good ales on (Adnams amongst others), been using the place on and off for years. Have eaten on first floor and had a bit of party on the 2nd floor at some stage to.
|
real ale choice was rather disappointing and lacking in imagination - but the continental offerings look very tempting !

Great. Much better than the Bricklayers round the corner. Might be worth pointing out that this pub is pretty new... until about 10 years ago it was a derelict motorcycle shop. You'd never guess it now, though, it's bedded in so well. Staff are good and they get some unusual beers in. More of a continental bar than a traditional pub, but in a good way.

Run by Remarkable Restaurants who run among other places the Sutton Arms on Carthusian St by Barbican. So what you get is a nice relaxed atmosphere, focus on good beer (and wine if that's your bag) and decent food. Haven't been for ages - must go back soon.

Didn't try the food although the menu looked inviting. Nice place. Good to sit at the bar, chat with the friendly staff and work your way down the rather healthily stocked range of lagers and bitters. Good atmosphere to the place.

went for sunday roast, and it was the best i've EVER had in london. sunday evening djs are excellent, great selection of music, and really nice atmosphere. i thought the staff were dead friendly too. don't know about the other nights of the week, but i would thoroughly recommend it as a great way to spend a sunday afternoon/evening.

The food is good. One day I went in there and they had shut the kitchen early which was a shame.

Nice to have a proper pub in this part of town - the Bricklayers doesn't count - but nothing more to recommend it really.

Very nice actual pub in an area surrounded by trendy bars. Good beer too

Nice pub on a weeknight - top ale. Too busy at weekends and always a scramble for a table.
