So sad to hear this is another lost London pub

A very Irish themed pub yet on two separate visits I have encountered every nationality drinking in here bar an Irish person.
On the first occasion I visited on a very wet Saturday evening there were around five locals all sat separately and uttered not a word to each other. There was a friendly American barmaid chatting to one customer and the token North London nutter ranting in the corner.
My second visit on a hot Saturday afternoon encountered around ten men as I entered standing separately and of different nationalities each seemingly sneaking a drink as they had one pint each before hurrying off.Again no one apart from a group of young foreign students chatted.
But I enjoyed my two visits and will call in again,it can't be easy attracting customers in such a very highly populated area of immigration as drinking huge quantities of lager is not as religious to these people as it is to the British people.

Bog standard Irish shop conversion bar - didn't notice any ale on and doubt I'd have risked it if I had. Handy for sheltering from the rain while waiting for a bus.

I now note that draught Courage Best is available here - good to see in a shopfront pub, where real ale is rarely available. I haven't sampled it so can't comment on quality.

This is a decent enough Irish conversion pub with the usual array of draught that you would expect to find. The barmaid was friendly, the Guinness was good and the atmosphere after Arsenals champions league victory was lively.

With the three plasma screens this is a great place to go and watch the footie, but Im not sure that I would make a special trip.

The Gate Lodge doesn't inspire much confidence from the outside, where it looks like a fairly rubbishy north London shop front pub; in particular the name of the pub is in very dated lettering and it basically looks worth avoiding. Inside, I thought it was rather better than that - it had obviously been refurbished quite recently and was clean and welcoming although a trifle over-lit (it reminded me rather of a much smaller Highgate Ale House at Highgate, which again is a bit overlit). There was a pleasant crowd of locals drinking at the bar, although there were one or two definite oddballs about, which is perhaps unsurprising in an entrepot such as Golders Green. No real ales but I'd rate this above the Refectory, which is the only other pub in the immediate vicinity.

Nice pub. Cosy in fact. With friendly service and civilised locals (I've actually seen people playing chess in there). The Guinness is a bit sour tasting, but then again, isn't it in most pubs?

So bad it's great! This is such a hellhole that it demands to be visited regularly. More of a corridor than a pub it is cramped if even three unfortunate souls visit at the same time. Last time I went, I ordered "a glass of house white, please" from the perplexed bar woman. She waddled off and returned some minutes later with a glass of red wine. When I reminded her that I'd asked for white, she clearly thought I was VERY fussy. She then went away and filled a glass with two different types of white wine. I decided not to argue with the deranged cow this time. Overall, there is a Star Wars feel to this bar. No, not that mad bar that they visit in the film. Rather, the scene where they get stuck in the garbage-crushing unit and the walls start closing in on them. That's how it feels to stand in this almost sarcastically-ridiculous pub. I love it! 10 out of 10!

this pub is a cracking little boozer, dont know what pgazz is going on about, the food is great(and cheap) it serves the best pint of fosters in london and the staff are friendly as well.
Could do with a lick of paint but that adds to the character, all in all a great little boozer a real throw back to the old days when a local was a local.

New management, new story. The beers are well kept, and the staff are very friendly and efficient. Unlike other local public houses there is always good conversation at the bar from the eclectic regulars. Basically, a nice little boozer.

this pub is friendly and has a good atmosphere but is rather small and crapt and the music is terrible but for a quick pint it is a nice pub.

I often pop into this pub after a few in the refectory. A good pub to have a few quiet pints and a chat with friends. A bit on the smokey side sometimes though.

I've got something of a soft spot for this pub. Located right next to a busy road, it's beseiged from the outside by people queuing for any one of the hundreds of buses that seem to stop there. Once you've fought your way in, however, you'll be pleased to find a warm, cosy establishment where it's not unusual to find punters playing Chess on a weekday evening. There's a couple of TVs for the football, but it doesn't dominate the pub and drown out the conversation at all. You're not going to have the best night of your life here, by any extent. But it's the kind of place where you might happily sit back, neck a couple of slow pints and resolve to do something more exciting next week.
