Visited with a family group of ten and a dog, on Boxing Day.
We were made most welcome and were offered a bowl of water for the dog before we ordered our drinks.
The food was of extremely high quality and represented good value for money.
Two proper beers were on the pumps, London Pride and Sussex Bitter. I can't comment on these as I had wine for a change.
The service was efficient and friendly.
We will definitely revisit when in the area and have no qualms in recommending it to others.

I havn't been into this pub for a few years until this week. Reading other reviews I felt I needed to put pen to paper. We had a lovely meal, a tender and beautifully cooked Lamb Shank and an amazing smoked salmon and prawn salad (huge and great value.) The staff were warm and friendly. All topped off by the most beautiful beer garden in Brighton and Hove. I will definately be going back more often.

Pub ok but prices!!! 3.65 for a pint of Franklyns Bitter - will not bother again

Far far overpriced by an owner who thinks he is a Lion. The High prices are meant to keep yobs and the normal man out of the pub. The owner is just too greedy. Best not give him anymore of your money for his bank. Chas (Burgess Hill ).
PS I am not a yob !

As one of the other reviewers said "over priced" but it is a reasonably comfotable basement pub with a garden. Normally just your basic bitters and on this occasion had "Hophead" on as a sort of treat?

Went in this pub the other day as a friend said it used to be quite popular a few years ago. very nice layout and very smart and tidy. Didnt eat but the food looked very nice with a whole menu dedicated to national cask ale week. My only critisim is that i was pleased to see and off for 4 halfs of ale for 2.50 but the only beer they seemed to do was london pride, bombadier, doom bar and harveys best. Ale easily found and a bit boring would be good to half something different and local

Only decent in the summer for a beer in the garden, thats the only decent thing about the pub, inside it is to small and dingy and over priced drinks, quite popular though but not my cup of tea.

Used to be a pub, now more of a bar...so very little character left inside. Don't look at the carpet if you've had a few! Greeeat garden though.

Handy for the cricket ground. This is a nice pub with the feel of a bar, because it is in a semi-basement. You go up to the garden, which is spacious.
It's a good place to meet friends and the beer is always good. It is always kept clean and tidy and the clientelle tend to keep themselves to themselves. Alwaya a pleasant experience going there.

Great garden

Excellent run bar. Excellent Cellar. 30-40 crowd including local likely lads. V good outside garden in summer and children welcome in that. Say hello to the gov, Richard but don't make mention of his waistcoats.

A fairly indifferent pub inside (although one of the few in the area where you can get food other than roasts on a Sunday), what makes this Place special is the large and attractive beer garden. Decent outdoor seating is strangely rare in Brighton and Hove so it's hard to beat on a sunny day.

An okay pub with a great Italianate garden attached. Best for warm summer evenings outside. Lots of airways cabin crew otherwise

The beer garden is really good and one of Hove's best-kept secrets. Ales are OK and the barstaff friendly enough. Worth a visit.

Part of local pub group. Usually sells Harveys and London Pride. Attracts 30s/40s crowd. Beer garden.
