user reviews of the Rose and Crown, Warwick

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The exterior is of the classic trad pub variety. Inside is nice enough, seems popular in a trendy sort of way. It appears that it`s run along the craft lager and beers line with the expected prices, if you`ve got deep pockets yes, if your a bit thriftier no.

I started my hiatus to discover the secrets of the midlands here in Warwick on Monday. The Rose & Crown was recommended by an acquaintance back in Birmingham and I'm glad he did. I had a lovely meal here accompanied by very nice wine. If I'm in the area again I would visit again

I have to agree with the previous poster Paul. Nice enough pub, nice staff and nice pint but might be a bit pricey for some. Worth a look in still.

Black Sheep decent enough but too cold for me. Not a cheap round of drinks. Service efficient and friendly enough. Still a popular place.

Visited this pub on a Sunday afternoon a couple of weeks ago. Had a fine pint of the Black Sheep. The roast was delicious and pretty good value for its (very high) quality. Staff were polite and efficient. Very good.

Dined here with a mate late February '09. Place is very buzzy and very female friendly, which is good for blokes. London Pride was OK and partridge casserole passable, if rather tough. Worth a visit if you've nothing better to do.

Nice place but a bit pricey.

Beer is ok but we saw someone with a cheese board which was impressive.

I find this place a little too full of itself. It is pleasant, well situated, big, but its just not friendly. The beer is average from the well tried safe range, and is quite pricey. We do go there fairly regularly, but its never top of our list for the best that Warwick has to offer.

I am a firm believer of you get what you pay for so if it costs a little more for fresh food and great service the so be it.

Well done peach keep up the good work.
I noticed from the other reviews that's all anybody could find to moan about- GET A LIFE

Was in the area recently and everyone I spoke to recommended this place. Tried other pubs which were pretty average/grim and then decided to follow their advice. Had a great meal and the service was excellent, everyone was very welcoming and friendly and I would most certainly go back next time I am in Wrawick/Leamington.

It might be a bit on the expensive side, but if you want a good atmosphere and great food, beer and wine. THIS IS THE PLACE.

Too posh! yupee and daylight snobbery. . Warwick locals loved the old Rose and Crown

My personal opinion is that, whilst it is probably the nicest bar in Warwick, is undoubtably overpriced. It costs a small fortune to buy a round and the food (which is very nice incidentally) is pretty steep too. This said, it is a nice place to go and the small beer 'garden' out front is pleasant enough- patio heaters mean that it can be used during Winter too.

On the down side, it tends to be full of 45+ year olds, trying very hard to wear young fashionable clothing, drinking their very expensive pints, then swaggering off to their very beautiful sports cars, BMWs and Jaguars parked around the town centre (hey - I'm just jealous!)... you know the type! That said - why the h*ll shouldn't 45+s enjoy the spoils of their labour I guess?!

Sadly, as a 24 year old girl, this often means getting chatted up, letched over and leered at by groups of boozy 40-something blokes who think that just because they have a bit of money and a flashy car, they have the immediate right to try and pull a younger woman. Then there's their female counterparts, giving you snooty looks. Oh well!

excellent food and service, you get what you pay for

Great place, very good food, prompt polite service, nice location - especially on sunny evenings.
Only let-down is seemingly average age of about 45 in the afternoon/evenings, most of them being fat 'wannabe trendy', more money than style, blokes (I have yet to see any 'eye-candy' other than the female staff!

I am told b+b is not up to standard of the pub/restaurant, but then it is the best pub in britain (!?)

great food, reasonable beer, top staff and good rooms. if you are after a Warwick B&B, this is the best.

I live very near the Rose and Crown. With regard to Frenchy's commment of 5 Oct 2003 I can't comment on the second sentence but I can confirm the first sentence to be correct
BUT whilst it carries a good range of ales (as he says) in my experience they are NOT well kept
and spoils an otherwise enjoyable place

Cracking pub which was done out about 12 months ago and transformed from the dive which it had become to an upmarket bar which attracts plenty of eye candy & keeps a good range of ales etc.. One highlight is a barmaid called Lenka who is absolutely stunning, give it a try (the pub that is!!)
