Lovely place for a drink if you can get a seat overlooking Pond Square - friendly staff and excellent Thai food.

I think I detect a slight improvement in the real ale here recently - whereas it used to be Butcombes, Youngs and something else bog standard, there is now Butcombes plus a guest ale (and Youngs), so a bit more interesting. They've also improved the sound system for the quiz - a long overdue move. A nice pub albeit can get a bit busy at times, especially on quiz nights. I suspect that along with many pubs it'll need a good clean when the smoking ban comes in, but it's still just about the best of the bunch in Highgate village.

Nice Pub, and incredibly quiet, been here on saturday nights with two other people. decent Ale

Had a perfect pint of Butcombe Bitter here with parents, sitting out back on the tiny patio area which overlooks the village green. Lovely place. Interior was just as nice and barman was a friendly bloke.
Other beers were Youngs and Courage Directors.
Serves thai food, with thai kitchen staff. Didn't eat here so can't comment but I am sure its of a decent standard, considering the quality of the pub and the area.

Not a bad pub. small but with a quaint little patio out the back looking over a nice green. at least it is a pub and not a trendy wine bar like a lot of the other 'pubs' in highgate appear to be.

A dark and dingy little local pub. Were serving butcombe bitter, directors, and youngs special. Had one of each and all were fairly well kept. A nice place to sit and read the paper over a few quiet pints as it never seems to get busy during the day. Staff were pleasant enought. Certainly less pretentious than some of it's neighbours.

It teeters on the brink of being an"Old Man's pub" but just about falls on the right side. Snug, cosy and although busy, you can usually find a seat. The decor is understated and unashamedly old fashioned, and the staff are generally good. This is one of my typical "Friday night" haunts, and good training for a night on the lash on Saturdays. Decent selection of lagers and bitters and spirits, easily accessible by bus or on foot. A very good, very welcoming little pub in a lovely area.

I was given a bad pint and took it back only to be replaced by a different one that was off too. i had to resort to lager, which isn't nice.

Absolutly brilliant pub, small, great atmosphere, nice customers, good bar service. Bit pricy but that's Highgate for you. More suited to a small groups than some other pubs in the area.

My favourite Highgate pub. A great quiz, nice quiet atmos and a sexy little barmaid. Awooga.

The manager is not the problem. I have seen several occaisions where some of the staff have been very rude to people, several of them long time regulars who no longer go in.
I thought the point of a pub was to have an enjoyable time, not put up with rude behaviour to ensure a win at local cricket matches.

yes kaiser i think you you are absolutly right! the prince is a great place and the south africans are doing a great job there.. the place is a comfortable local and lives on the regulars who make it a nice place + to lovely fireplaces...

ti anonymous...the manager corne has been there for over 2 years and most of the staff are not even nearly new. the back bar has a lively repartie and is frequented by serious locals not just staff. the south african contingent are all part of the increasingly sucessful cricket team ! its a shame you have moved on but it is a great pub that relies on locals who keep coming back for more. they must be doing something right !
|
I used to love this pub but the new bar staff are very rude. The back of the bar sometimes gets taken over by a South African clique who work or know people who work in the pub and who overwhelm the area forcing out anyone else who is there. I've heard off duty staff on a break swear at customers.
I'm looking for a new local until the landlord sacks the problem staff.

I love this pub. Good Thai food, a tricky quiz and fairy lights!

This is a great little pub: the best in Highgate since the Flask's fall from grace. It has decent beers, an attractive interior, friendly bar staff and a pleasant terrace/beer garden looking onto Pond Square. The Tuesday Night quiz is bloody difficult, but at least they don't ask you about characters in Coronation Street.

A lovely old-fashioned pub. So full of wood that it creaks! Lots of charm and character. I wish it was my local!

A great little pub("little" being the operative word),with a Tuesday quiz of daunting repute. It used to be managed by a Melbourne fella named Fergus,I wonder if he's still there? One of those places I'll definately stop off at whenever I'm in England.8-9/10

A gem of a pub.

Agreat little 'old fashioned' pub...very local (if you get my meaning). Ideal place to while away a Sunday afternoon...after a nice roast! Friendly staff...and you can actually hear yourself speak! This pub has a lot of character...and is much smaller than I imagined.

Spent a lazy Friday afternoon in there. Good pub with an adequate selection of beers. Well worth a visit.

By miles the best pub in Highgate - much better than the over-rated Flask nearby. Lovely higgledy-piggledy wooden-panelled interior. Open fires in the winter, great spot overlooking Pond Sqaure with tables outside round the back in the winter. Good beer, including the brilliant Marston's Pedigree.

Quite a good pub I hear. Only used to have Ruddles Best when I used to come up for the KRG Monthly in 1993.
|
Traditional wooden-framed pub with low ceilings and much real ale. Serves Thai food and has excellent quiz on Tuesday nights (immortalised in Marcus Berkmann's "Brain Men"). A Highgate institution.
