Popped in for Sunday lunch yesterday. First impressions fairly friendly community pub, I'd say on a similar scale to the Nonsuch Inn up the road. Could see on the wall that it has regularly evening entertainment. Am sure this is a pub that would be a good visit for a pint, but my food experience was disappointing. My wife and I ordered a chicken roast. I asked why my portion was so small - apparently they're pre-portioned (so cooked, frozen and warmed up again on site).
The chicken certainly didn't have that fresh cooked taste. Potato's were of the cheap oven cooked variety, slightly worse than Aunt Bessie's. I wondered how a pub could serve food of this quality in this day and age where food sales are the main revenue generating product, but there you go. Next time, either I'll try and get in earlier to the Nonsuch Inn, which I've had terrific experiences at - or the HG Wells.

First visit for many years. Good pub, decent beer, food looked good. Good atmosphere, people of all ages.

One warning - beware of extremely short pints on the Ale front.

Been here several times ove the years, easily the best pub in the area, good booze, nice atmosphere & pub quiz on a Tuesday (although I don;t rate it that highly!) lovely pub, recommended.

Went in here the other Sunday evening for a quick couple before a Chinese with some old friends.

Decent London Pride, reasonable selection of lagers. An attractive young bar lady with a nice smile. Would have tried to get her number if I was in there for longer.

Clean, trouble-free and bright. I will be returning when in the area.

Decent sized pub which has a somewhat grand feel to it
Car parking at rear
I went in on a midweek quiz night and the atmosphere was busy in there, but relaxed. Service was fast friendly and re-liable
Can't complain

this is a proper pub. the staff are experienced and after only a few vists knew what i liked to drink (london pride)
the food is very good and really cheap. a nice smokers place outside too. no problem taking the kids there for lunch

Very fast service, a nice chilled lager took the brunt of the July heat when I popped in there earlier this year. A good London Pride followed suit, and that was well kept, so I'm having no problem revisiting.
Food looked okay too, but I'll pass on commenting until I've tried it myself.

very friendly staff, can get busy in there tho, they do their best to put up with any idiots tho, they actually fill pints up the top, with a nice head as well! manager's a nice bloke, very good food, the steak's are to die for tho, very recommended, problem is they can do so many of them they run out!

nice pub tho on the whole, could be bigger, but it's nicer smaller, gives that homely feel, kids are allowed in, but only til 8 o'clock i think. food's cheap, beer's cheap, and very well kept, london pride, and young's especially, occasionally they have a guest beer. no beer garden which is a shame, but there's no room to put one. outside heaters and roofed conservatry area tho, for smokers, very nice too.

The exact opposite of the Woodstock & Beverley.
You can actually enjoy a drink in here without feeling like an 'outsider'.
Good staff, beer & quiz.

New to the area and popped there with a few friends for a beer on a Friday evening. Friendly enough, sat outside but just a shame there isn't a decent beer garden, only the seats out the front and the small shaded patio area. All in all a fair pub, would have liked to have seen the 'old' Nelson.

I went to this pub for the first after living in the area
for over 25 years.

Very nice too. Good atmosphere, beer and friendly staff.

Nice, straightforward pub serving food at the usual times (e.g. lunch till 3 on Saturdays). London Pride well kept, more expensive than average though.

This is a lovely little pub for a Sunday afternoon if you fancy a nice bit of pub food. Lots of variety on the menu and the staff are very friendly. Never seen any trouble in there, but then it's not got that sort of clientele.
