Worked here from the age of 12 (shhhh don't tell on me) went rapidly down hill after Jill & Brian left, a few good months from then until it closed! great times, real shame!!

This will soon be a Tesco Express. Boycott them before they take over your old pub. I see Yates in Guildford is going the same way. Be afraid....be very afraid

We ran this pub until Sept 2005 and its sad to see a pub restaurant with so much character consigned to the history books.

Got to agree with anonymous 1st oct. after finding The White Lion shut called in here, it`s not a pub but again a restaurant, food not bad,but as a local go`s you can`t call it one. On that basis i mark it 5

"The Red Lion hasn't marketed itself as a pub, it markets itself as an place to eat" ? Surely its inclusion on a web site dedicated to pubs, bars and drinking is in question

Visited here the another night, busy, as it always seems to be. And definitley no complaints.

It should be remembered that the Red Lion hasn't marketed itself as a pub, it markets itself as an place to eat.

Regards smoking, anywhere that primarily serves food should be non-smoking, there are few things more annoying than eating your meal while the person on the next table puffs away with no regard for anyone else.

I visited this so called pub last night looking for a decent pint of real ale and maybe a meal, but what I found was a cold atmosphere, a rude Manager, a poor selection of ales - 4 hand pumps and only 2 serving Courage Best and Directors and no where to sit and enjoy a pint unless I was eating. As I moved away from the bar the Manager said "you can't sit over there all the tables have been layed" He also said he was very busy yet there was only one other couple in the place - it was 6:15pm. I have eaten here in the past and the food was very good, but following this experience I shall not be returning. A short way up the Petworth Road is The Star (Witley) with good food, great beer and very friendy staff.

I have been visiting this pub off and on since 1987, and still miss Graham and Liz who ran it when it was a real pub, with rooms, and events etc etc. Now it is more of a restaurant and the food is the best in town, but I don't like the dark environment and spooky atmosphere. As my husband has not yet retired, I often eat on my own at lunchtime during the week, and object to having to sit at a table in the middle of the restaurant. Please - Red Lion - provide smaller tables around the edge, in lit areas to enable reading, for those having to eat on their own. After all, it is easy to push two tables together for a group of more than two! Then, I might visit you more often. Wine is good and reasonably priced and, apart from once, the staff are excellent.

well I feel utterly annoyed at the rather nasty attitude from the Manager. We were a party of 9 and they would not serve Mixed grill to parties over 6. This is a Resteraunt not a pub. Its also gone Non smoking without warning.I feel that they could at least put things in larger writing as well on the menu. But overall I dont think we will go back again

Every time we have been there, it has been full (a very good sign)with excellent food with very friendly and helpful staff. We also found the bar staff also to be very efficient and pleasant.

Excellent (albeit lengthy!) choice of tasty meals served by helpful and pleasant staff! Highly recommended for any meal
