Clifton, Cliftonback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
basically more of a foody pub, but if you are just drinking ,worth a visit if you are in this area, a couple of real ciders , and 3 real ales 2 ubiqutous ones normally, but often contains a suprise, on this visit it was sambrooks wandle.

A good sized, traditional pub just on the outskirts of Clifton village. It�s managed to retain some of it�s original character intact which is a welcome change from many of the pubs nearby that have had �makeovers�. On first entering you�re in a corridor which takes you alongside the smaller front bar, and leads on to a much larger bar at the back. I didn�t visit the rear bar on this occasion, but from memory it�s slightly gloomy, lacking much in the way of natural light as I recall.
The front bar is a pleasant enough space with a very large window out on to the street decorated with some hanging coloured lights. The predominant colour is brown, with extensive use of this shade on the walls and ceilings. The floor is reclaimed floorboards with a large rug in the middle. There is bench seating around the window and a few chunky wood tables and chairs.
There was a decent looking menu chalked up on a large board, although it tended more towards the gastro-pub style of cooking rather than your traditional pub grub. That said, there was Bangers & Mash and Fish & Chips included, plus a selection of burgers, so there should be something to suit most tastes and prices seemed to be a not unreasonable �9/�10 for most of the main courses. Staff seemed friendly enough, although some acknowledgement while I was waiting would have been good.
The beers available on this occasion were Tribute, Doom Bar and Lancaster Red. Ciders on tap were Hogan�s and Aspall�s Suffolk although there were also three boxes of Weston�s racked up behind the bar � Organic, Old Rosie and Cider Twist Winter Spice.

Has always seemed lively, with a good atmosphere, when i've popped in....
The staff are cool, the food i've had has been excellent, in a solid pub grub way, and the beer selection & quality is splendid...(Paulaner Helles/Erdinger Weiss/Tim Taylor Landlord)...
Sometimes the front bar guest Ales are a nice surprise, too...had a lovely pint of Adnams Kolsch, one time...

Only popped in because of the late licence and wasn�t expecting much. Was quite pleased to find a couple of ales and ciders on go the which were also quite well served up and not overly (for Clifton) expensive, along with a fair selection of bottled stuff (which was a bit more wallet-bothering). The interior was lit like a fairy grotto along with various pot plants dotted around. Given I�d been at the Portcullis for a while previously my memory is a little sketchy on the rest of the details but I did leave thinking that it was fairly good�will pop my head round the door again at some point.

It's definitely glamed up a bit since I was a student. Much better use of the vast back bar, really funky decore, great beer and cider, knowledgable barman and good grub.

good selection of beer and cider, nice food and funky decoration and music. its a bit dear but not more than most pubs in the area

pricey , food and beer wise , like going into aladdins cave , dark , very limited choice , real ale wise.cider choice not bad , vintage rosie

Interesting selection of bottled European beers. Much improved.

The Clifton has undergone refurbishment and is no longer an awful dive...i like it
