please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

menacing door staff at entrance staring at your footwear

guest-list only, Weybridge winebar in Mayfair nightclub guise, hence has the air of a WAG/footballer wannabe hangout -

to be missed if you're claustrophobic, I wouldn't like to think what the official licensed capacity is but it's like a "how many people can we in a mini" challenge

used to stop serving tap beer after 9 as it got "too busy to serve pints" - the cynic in me says its so they charge double for way over-priced bottled beer, but surely not ;o)

but then some people love dressing up to be ripped off & drink in a bar resembling a rush hour central line carriage

if it were any more pretentious it'd disappear up it's own cellar with a pop

PROS: Close to station and taxi rank (very important because you'll want to leave!

CONS: 8 quid cover charge to get in, rude and obnoxious bouncers make you queue for no reason (in the rain) other than they want to make the place look popular and it gives them the chance to try and give their fists some exercise. Absurdly expensive drinks, derivative music, massive queue for toilets, very chavvy but stuck up patrons, slow bar staff.

There are cheaper and places to have a pint and a punch-up.

Unpleasant and overly aggressive door staff before you enter seem to delight in trying to pick a fight with the customers. Very thorough search (presumably for drugs) and you discover why when you get in...

Once inside there is an atmosphere like a school disco, but with west end prices for drinks. The feel is of a little bit of essex in the surrey countryside.

You might have had a thorough search for drugs, but the chap who tries to sell you drugs right in front of the bar staff obviously hasn't...

Not a very good evening. But somewhat better than the guys getting worked over by the door staff as we waited for our taxi.

This place never used to be £8 to get in, if its £8 to get in i'd say thats a bit riduclous!

It was empty at 8ish on Saturday evening, so i get the idea its just a late night venue now.
aleman - 30 Mar 2008 12:36
Pros:
Close to the station, plenty of cabs, good music

Cons:
Over priced drinks, no pints, covert charge
anonymous - 10 Nov 2006 12:13
absolutely dreadful - over-priced drinks, stuck-up patrons, lots of middle-aged men drooling over semi-naked young girls. Took over 10 minutes to get served after paying £8 to get in. The venue is far too small for the amount of people they let in. Abaya has ideas way above its station - this is Weybridge after all, not the West End

Been there a couple of times and had a great night out however a little on the expensive side so best to pop into weybridge town first top up in abaya later night thats why it's so good that it does now have such a late licence..

Abaya is the dog's bollocks as far as I am concerned. Great place for parties, as it's so near the station, your guests will be in and out easily, the surroundings are stunning, the bar is great, and most of all, the people behind the bar are fantastic, from being friendly, to entertaining you with their flaring "a la tom cruise" (only much better...)and they really look after you! Guys, you rock!!

for the person who said all drinks are served as doubles and there is only a little sign up, ur wrong there are signs at both bars clearly saying that all drinks will be served as doubles, if u cant read it, u must have had a few drinks t blur ur vision!
anonymous - 13 Feb 2006 14:35
best local place to go for a night out with ur mates
anonymous - 10 Feb 2006 13:54
Very pretentious but unapologetic about it. Innovative styling and superbly located for rail links to Woking, Guildford, Surbiton and Waterloo. Must mention the music. Absolutely brilliant. DJ called Max (I think it was) mixing superbly in the corner!
adamsim - 7 Feb 2006 16:39
Came here for drinks on Friday night. Er, don't really know where to start to be honest. The decor is nice with the upstairs clearly influenced by Tantra. Does getted rammed too and the music is spot on. Only problems being; you have to stipulate that you want a single shot of a spirit or you automatically get served a double (there is a tiny sign which tells you this) and full of knobby weybridge 'beautiful' people. You get the idea, bottle blondes, attitude problems and chatting (loudly) about how much money they have.
There was also a group of girls (looked about 15, though probably were older) dressed up in uniforms. Wasn't a good look at all. Especially when one of the larger ones fell over and exposed themselves. Nice.
Basically, you can have a cracking night here just don't take the people that drink in there seriously and laugh at the bar staff walking around in headsets thinking this tiny bar in Weybridge is competing with the top London clubs.

Far out dudes and dudettes!!! Flippin Mental Bar with loads of character !!!! G8 FUN!!!!
anonymous - 20 Jan 2006 19:46
I've been here a few times since it was opened, always had a pretty decent night out, the guest list is a bit of a drain but I guess it gives extra control on the door if your "face" don't fit.

The place seems to attract quite a few "up themselves" cigar toting twats, and the obligatory "looking for (loaded) Mr Right" girls which seem to be present in all Weybridge bars.

I also had some female friends go there a couple of months back and they found the staff and management rude and unhelpful when they had a problem.

Well, we were back again a couple of weeks ago and not much has changed, they now seem to be less fussy on the door now judging by the clientele on the night, but the shockingly bad choice of beer was still a problem, only one on tap which only gets served until about 22:00hrs or so (what the hell is that all about), and in bottle form they only had Corona, Miller and San Miguel to choose from, oh and no cider, not even Magners !

Sort out the bar management, surely it can't be too hard to keep a few more varieties in the fridge !

Prices are as you'd expect really for this type of club (more of a lively pub really) but the late licence now makes it a local option from going up to town for a wallet emptying evening and a dance !

top quality!!!x
anonymous - 17 Jan 2006 15:23
Basically like a nightclub but open all day. If you've got any sense you don't go here for the beer

Will2 - 18 Sep 2005 19:33
Was rather quiet when we went there but that was quite early on, i believe this place gets busier later on. Quite expensive for beer, and a rather limited range.
aleman - 18 Sep 2005 01:09
The dj Pablo in this bar is gorgeous and another called Von Dutch (silly name I know but he is hot)...anyway they are two of the main reasons I come, if only they knew.....
anonymous - 29 Jul 2005 01:14
Flippin mental, a Sexy/Fun bar...with a swift service ..groovey baby!! Absolutley MUCHO WICKED!!! Positive vibes for a cool bar to visit anytime during the week. Top class..
tiger007 - 25 Jul 2005 16:20
This is not the type of place I usually frequent, but I got stuck at Weybridge train station so popped in whilst I was waiting for a lift.

I felt very very out of place - But if you after a poncy bar.. sorry a bar, then it seemed quite nice. Had the obligatory comfy sofas and expensive bottled beer.
I am soundlng like I am slagging it off, but honestly, if you like swanky bars then this would be a very nice place to spend an evening I can imagine. The barman was friendly also.

I wonder where the clientele come from, as Weybridge train station is in the middle of nowhere though.
TheGP - 23 Jul 2005 21:46
don't believe everything you read. join in the abaya fun... don't knock it until you try it. top bar, top quality.
anonymous - 4 Jul 2005 17:32
I've been in this place on Thursday nights, seen it empty and walked straight out again.

Fridays though, asking for ID off mid-20's customers is a bit of a piss take. Especially when the doorman is clearly younger than you. It enjoys it's position of being Weybridge's only late opening bar and milks it.

Go to London, this place takes the piss.
andyd1 - 1 Jul 2005 23:26
amazing party to remember at abaya sat 4th June, be there it will be parties of ALL parties......
anonymous - 31 May 2005 21:04
Top class, QUALITY.........
anonymous - 3 May 2005 19:50
abaya is the best bar in town, the most unique place in town, after making several visits everytime feels diffrent, highly recommended, i just wish the website would get updated meaning more people could benefit on seeing what there missing. one barman who was very helpful, very charming, over welming personality....
tiger007 - 12 Apr 2005 18:23
PS I have to comment on the doormen...they are only there to stop the village idiots getting in and spoiling such a great vibe....as far as I know there isn't a guest list anymore
daisyduke - 8 Apr 2005 23:54
The best music, Hed Kandi style...great atmosphere and crowd...everyone seems to know each other and there is no pretentiousness... gorgeous dark intimate decor...
daisyduke - 8 Apr 2005 23:53
Once we had negotiated our way past the burly bouncer, the bar was uncluttered and a resident DJ was spinning in the corner. An enjoyable night out, bar the gentleman with the cigars and the party tricks.
anonymous - 1 Mar 2005 23:03
Exclusive and classy but full of people with a bit too much room between their eyes. Very image concious. The absentia of Jack Daniels makes an automatic turnoff for me. Alright for one night. No more.
j_watts - 13 Feb 2005 14:32
Good bar - lovely decor and friendly staff. Prices are slighty londonised - but to be expected when looking at the decor. Great that Weybridge finally has some where nice - that does not get packed with wall to wall peroxide at the weekends.
anonymous - 23 Jan 2005 13:10
I have never been to a place where everyone knows everyone and there is no nasty atmosphere at all. Everyone was friendly and me and the girls had a top night. We live in surbiton so just jumped on a train. Its a 30 second walk fromj the station. We went on a Friday night and had such a good time, one of the bar staff was really fit as too was the DJ who played hed kandi style music all night, we loved it. Just wish it was a little cheaper, however that is my only gripe, other than it finishing at 11!! Will be back very soon. x
anonymous - 7 Dec 2004 12:39
Totally fantastic place, wall to wall with stunning people and the DJ's are some of the best i have heard. Friday is the best night by far but then i have not been during the week. They have dj's from wednesday to saturday with live music on a sunday. Have the abi titmuss cocktail too, i rocks!!
anonymous - 7 Dec 2004 12:35

buffers now known as Abaya is surely is the best bar in town, handy location next to a train station.who ever had the idea for this bar has obiviously put alot of thought and time into the creation of the bar. Entering the bar you can feel the buzz, the atmosphere is wicked to party or chill to, abaya definately has the 'feel good factor'.the quality of drinks are scrumptious at realistic value. ABAYA highly recomended to all!!!
GA - 14 Nov 2004 11:45
fuckin wicked!! loadsa hot babes, excellent cocktails, brilliant atmosphere....and rite next to the station or if ur havin a late one the taxi service is next to tha station! wot more could ya want?
Peter Griffin - 14 Nov 2004 06:34
had a fantastic night!! well worth checking out, drinks are delicious, the decor is sumptious and the music just wicked!!!
katie - 1 Nov 2004 22:00
very pretentious and expensive but the decor is nice. obviously very handy for a drink on your way back from work
anon - 1 Nov 2004 12:24
now called abaya..and allegedly it's 'guest list only' - bit bizarre for the pub near the station. Full on satin rope and everything..
greg - 15 Oct 2004 22:13
Recently changed hands and has become some sort of Marrocan themed lounge bar with a name that I can't pronounce. I think they have a late licence though, so worth knowing!
Gordon - 17 Aug 2004 11:41
Ghost town location but cool to hang out upstairs and shoot some pool with ya mates!
Gareth - 27 Nov 2003 17:55
A small pub which has been built into the old Cafe building residing just outside Weybridge Station. Sky Sports available on two TV's in the main bar - one of which is a flat plasma item. Upstairs holds a Pool room with several tables. For Weybridge, beers are mainly priced at a reasonable £2.50, and there's a consistently good pint of Stella to be enjoyed.
Main gripe is that opening times can be variable to say the least. A Saturday 11AM start could be 11, 12 or later, so beware!
