In response to the previous comment-are you sure you were in the right place? I have eaten in Riverside many times and tried all the exotic burgers-they are NOT out of a packet. Can I also add that Riverside have never, ever charged 10 to listen to the music-it has always been free. Did you read the previous comment 'n'? Does the saying 'kick a dog when its down' feature in your vocabulary?

WEnt for a drink on a Sunday a few weeks ago, service was appaling for food, deserts were still frozen when served. Burgers out of a packet, roast meat just ok overcooked veg. gastropub prices with Hungry Horse service and food. Have friends with similar experiences amazed at the prices for live music as well 10 with a tiny stage area. Best of luck, won't be back.

it has closed down poor things. sad. it has "CLOSED FOR BUSINESS" on the door so i suppose it really is all over.

Hope the rumours are not true. Riverside is a great place and I hope it doesn't close.

Lovely owners and staff. Great food, music and a nice garden to sit and relax with a drink or three.

I've lived in Colliers Wood about 10 years and nice to have such a place here.
Marc - 11 Jun 2004 20:29
What?? Closing down? Oh surely not. I've only been there once so far, and for me the music was the draw. I really enjoyed it. Good atmosphere, beer, and sounds. I was hoping this would be a regular local attraction. Can this rumour be knocked on the head?
Frank - 8 Jun 2004 20:33
Yes I heard that too!!I don't think they've been doing too well lately.Shame really, as it was a change to have somewhere nice to drink in Coliiers Wood.Food was a bit pricey though.
Jason - 7 Jun 2004 10:39
i've heard it's closing down??? can anyone confirm?
Mr PJ - 31 May 2004 13:03
Beautiful garden to sit in and relax. Friendly staff, nice place.

I agree with 'an-honest-reader' the music at the Riverside is great but I'm sorry the service is sometimes sloppy. My wife tried to crack a joke with one of the 'teen waitresses' and she looked like she wanted the ground to open and swallow her up.Food was nice but not exceptional.Did you mean to say 'well' quite so often 'an-honest-reader?

well i went to the riverside last night as i have been reading all your comments on here and decided i needed to see for myself. so what do i think, well i had a wonderfull time as did my husband. the food was very nice indeed and i think very good value for money. the music was the best live Jazz i have heard in a very long time, and as for the staff well yes they are young but very helpfull, cheerfull and considering how busy the place was they did a wonderfull job. i would not hesitate to go back very soon,in fact it could well become a regular haunt for my husband and i.my advice to all that read this site is to go see for yourself as there are people on here that want just a pub and some that don't. for those of you that don't this is the place for you. its nice to see a touch of class bought to little old colliers wood. from my husband and i well done riverside i give you 9 out of 10.

Whilst the atmosphere can be a bit sterile when its empty - the food is excellent and is actually good value - quite adventurous for Colliers Wood. Staff very friendly and helpful - not really a pub - though alright for sharing a bottle of wine or two where you don't have to shout

Yet another real pub bites the dust (broken windows, no ice etc.) to be replaced by a gastropub. All very well for gastropubbers and bright young things, but these places are not conducive to lazing about with a paper and a decent pint of ale. Too much style, not enough warmth.
findus - 18 Feb 2004 17:45
I really don't understand why this place has an over 21s policy and then you get served by waitresses who are no more than 17? They don't have a clue what they're doing and when you challenge them they giggle and run off? Great music at the weekends, nice decor but just sort out the service in there please!
Mrs. Bristol - 18 Feb 2004 13:18
Yes the food on the whole is good but indeed a bit pricey and some of the dishes are a bit far fetched for little old Colliers Wood. However, the staff are friendly and the music nights are great.
Kate Taylor - 22 Jan 2004 15:39
Must agree on the food, excellent though slightly pricy, good atmosphere.
Jazz Lover are you American?
You do not understand irony and you SHOUT!
Please chill out.

Other than for a notice in the porch I was surprised to find this a live music venue as it is light, bright and mod. Makes London look cheap though at 2.60 for a poor pint of Spitfire. Menu includes seasonal specialities such as Reindeer and traditional local fayre (kangeroo, crocodile and bison) all at a price.
lout_from_the_lane - 31 Dec 2003 11:39

Went here last night for their Halloween party. Couldn't eat unfortunately because they were fully booked. The band were fantastic and it was good to see all the staff in fancy dress. Bit smokey though and I didn't have anywhere to sit-but hey it didn't spoil my night!

GARY - 9 Oct 2003 17:31
I don't know why all these pathetic people who quite obviously 'lurve' Gazpacho keep having a go at Riverside? I've eaten there a number of times and the food has always been wonderful! Don't listen to the talk of the town folks-try it for yourselves! Keep up the good work Riverside!
Sally - 30 Sep 2003 19:52

i was at the riverside on sat eve with a few friends of mine and i have to say it was the best night i have had in this area in a very long time. i was shocked to see what a differance the family have made to the old run down six bells, it has been completly transformed, and yes all for the better. my friends and i went in for drinks but after seeing the menu we decided to eat,i had for the first time ever kangaroo, WOW!! it was fantastic. we all agreed that this is a place we will have to make a regular meeting place. it was great to go somewhere in colliers wood that you didnt have to worry about a bunch of drunks getting loud and stupid. so well done folks, great to have you here, you will be seeing me and my friends often.
Angela - 23 Sep 2003 13:55
i agree with you all above i have spent many a great nights in the riverside since it opened. the staff are wonderfull but the best thing is the food, it makes a nice change to eat food that is fresh made rather than all the frozen ready made meals you find in most pubs.fantastic idea to open here in colliers wood we have been waiting for a place with some class to open here and now we have it. good luck to all the staff and management team.

Went in for a meeting with my personal trainer and ended up staying in there drinking on my own and chatting with the staff!! (shhh don't tell him-4 glasses of wine are NOT part of my training programme). Had a very enjoyable evening, very friendly staff and nicely done out.Looking forward to hearing some of the live music and sampling some of the exotic food on the menu.
Donna - 22 Sep 2003 11:54
Had a most enjoyable evening on Friday 19th September. Food was good (Bison Burger), beer was good and Music was good. Atmosphere excellent. Rates as my best all round pub resturant in Colliers Wood.
Smudger - 21 Sep 2003 15:29
Really lovely atmosphere here. The McCulley family are ever so friendly but very sure about what type of person they want in their establishment. So all you 18-25 larger louts with your caps and trainers-KEEP OUT!! Welcome to Colliers Wood Riverside-we are happy to have you!
Zara - 21 Sep 2003 12:27
What a lovely evening I had last night!! Great atmosphere, great band and really nice people-keep it up!!!
Dave - 21 Sep 2003 12:23
A really nice place to chill out especially on a Friday and Saturday night when R and B bands play two sets. A very well run resturant pub with excellent service from the staff and management who are always profesional and polite. A few teething problems sometimes with the food - but everyone is so obliging that one can overlook these things. A lovely crowd of people are now making it their local especially when the live music is on. It can only go from strength to strength. Good Luck !!

Yuk! Had dinner there on Sunday. Agree with Mick's comments below. Food is pretty much taken out the freezer. My partner sent back his pan fried chicken as it was actually cremated on one side and his mash was luke warm! The beer garden looks good though! Think I'll just be drinking next time I go in there.
Buns - 1 Sep 2003 15:48
Had dinner on a Sunday evening, the staff didn't have a clue about service or the menu ! When the food did arrive it was cold. Not impressed.
Tasha - 1 Sep 2003 14:11
Used to be the six bells, is now a restaurant/pub. Doesn't really know what it is yet. Currently has far more staff than custom. but will have to wait and see. Has got a large garden.
