Thought this was a decent locals boozer, with 3 ales on. Those tried Phoenix and Greenmill were in good condition.

As ROBCamra states, this was a micro brewery pub run by McGuinness a few years ago . It had a range of tasty ales at very reasonable prices.

WTF WENT WRONG?

Friendly welcome and pleasant surroundings accompanied by a good selection of real ales.

Should soon become the Green Mill Brewery tap. The brewery is relocating to the rear of the pub.

Good pub with plenty of choice, with changing guest ales. Modernised pub with a friendly feel to it.

Modernised boozer in an uninspiring part of town near the station. It doesn't look much like a pub with the sand stone exterior, and as noted the interior is at odds with this. Nice Greenalls lamps at the front though, a blast from the past. Has all the ingredients of a circuit pub, loads of flat screen TVs with Sky Sports, pool table, mixture of sofas and more traditional furnishing, and was beign used by a mixed clientele on my visit. Phoenix Navvy, Green Mill gold and one other guest on my visit, the Green Mill was very good. Quite enjoyed it here but not one for the traditionalists.

This is a pub I visit regularly. It used to be the home of the McGuinness brewery, but after a fire the brewery equipment was sold on. Its now being used by Offas Dyke Brewery who also took the brewer along with the kit. The pub interior had to be completely refurbished after the fire and is now a modern looking L shaped one roomer, slightly at odds with the old stone exterior. Theres a pool table on the right as you go through then door and a large lounge to the left with some comfortable chairs along with some dining style tables and chairs. Three handpumps on the bar one of which always serves Phoenix Navvy, the other two are changing guests often from Hornbeam and Moorhouses. Some of the clientele can sometimes be a bit rough and ready but the other half is happy to visit regularly, so its not rough really. Has live music on Sundays as well. Tony and Jackie run a good pub.
