The first of 2 Wetherspoons we visited in Barnsley on Wednesday evening. It's on a pedestrianized shopping street that is deserted after 5pm. Typical branch of Spoons, which was busy during our visit. I think we took the last table. Ales were Milestone Little John, Inveralmond Rascal, Sharps Doom Bar, Old Mill Yorkshire Pearl, Springhead Maid Marian, Greene King Abbot & Ruddles Best. The cider was Sandford Orchards The General and the perry was Barbourne Painted Lady. Probably one of the best pubs in Barnsley.

If you are visiting Barnsley and are in town early it is worth finding this spoons. It was busy early but I much preferred it to the Lloyds that is near by. It had a decent choice of ales.

Typical dreary Wetherspoons with no character. What's worse, my friend couldn't finish his pint.

Quite small and dark inside for a Wetherspoons outlet, but a reasonable choice of ales and plenty of customers enjoying the usual W'spoon fare. Based on the local coalmining history and with plenty of local custom, we had an interesting chat with an ex-miner keen to discuss and recommend the local hostelries and his hobby of travelling the towns and cities of the UK, mainly for beer drinking purposes.

Typical Wetherspoons - cheap ale, "get what you pay for" food but lacking in atmosphere.

called last saturday lunch.
this is the newer of the two jdws in barnsley.
modern design, with front outdoor seating.
one or two heavy drinkers outside, but weren't a problem.
***
inside a single large interior with some partitioning.
seating for around 200-250.
the place was quite busy around lunchtime, and we struggled to get a table.
this cleared a little, later on.
***
standard menu, wihich we ordered from.
service was quick and polite, to say how busy it was.
meals were okay.
there were about 8 cask ales on.
I had the abbot, which was a little cloudy bu tasted okay.
***
verdict:
standard wetherspoon.
the place was a little dark, but was kept clean, even when busy.
meals & drinks okay.
an extra point for good service.
an 8 from me.
