GREAT VENUE - BUT FAR TOO EXPENSIVE!!

THE STAFF ARE SO RUDE & OBNOXIOUS!! & IT TAKES AGES TO GET SERVED & THEN ONCE YOU DO - ITS LIKE YOU'VE BEEN ROBBED!! STAY AWAY FROM THE SPIRITS - THEY HAVE BLATANTLY BEEN WATERED DOWN!!

TERRIBLE - ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!! ITS A SHAME - ITS A NICE VENUE & GREAT MUSIC BUT THE PIG IGNORANT STAFF & UNORGANISED FEEL TO EVERYTHING JUST LET IT DOWN...... I'LL NEVER GO BACK!!

I booked the sunken area on Friday for the Licked party and just wanted to say to the team at The White House..."Thank You soo much for a great nite!" The music was great, the venue was perfect and staff were really cool..Thank you cant wait for the nxt party!!

very over priced.... draft lager not always working and jack daniels or vodka seems watered down in the evenings..

Bar staff are rude and dont serve you for ages...

the doormen are complete t*ats but seemed to back down very quickly when we told them who we were...

pathetic

Awful!

If you want to wait ages to be served by pretentious bar staff who seem more interested in trying to look cool and moving the bowl of limes 2 inches over to left, then this is your place.

The staff are far and away the worst attribute of this place. Their specialty seems to be being rude to customers and serving people in a completely random order, regardless of how long they have been standing at the bar.

We waited more than an hour and a half for our food to arrive. When we then began to eat it we realised it was the wrong order. On pointing this out to the waitress we were barracked for having eaten what we had!

Avoid this place like the plague.

In a word awful.
As it was my birthday night (Saturday 1st March) I had emailed Bianca and given names for the guest list. We turned up before 11pm, only to find none of our names were on the list and we had to pay the full price to get in.
We spotted what we thought was a free table and sat down. We were given table service (at a cost of 6) only to have a girl come up and start shouting in our faces that she had reserved the area and we had to move. We did eventually but there was nothing to suggest this was a reserved space.
We finished our drinks and after speaking to the manager demanded some money back.
On leaving, the place was packed, totally horrible.
Don't bother going, other much better places in Clapham.

Beautiful decor, a smoking balcony (which is a massive bonus these days, although it shuts at 11pm), but VERY expensive. Drinks are 7 a cocktail, BOGOF before 9pm. My friend reserved an area, for which he had to pre-order 100 of food. The buffet style finger food was duly served at 8.30. 5 plates of decent chinese style snacks, but probably worth 50 rather than 100, we thought it was just a starter and asked when the rest would be delivered! Turned out there was no need to reserve anyway, as the place was empty until 9 / 9.30 anyway (this was a Friday night...) Music was good to start, got better, then got terrible.

Nothing special, wouldn't recommend it.

I had brilliant night at the White House last saturday night. Having read a fair amount of negative feedback on the venue, I was slightly sceptical about what it would be like. However, all the staff were professional, friendly and helpful, I got served almost straight away (even though the place was very busy), the atmosphere was buzzing and the dj was playing some great music. I will definitely be going back again. Big thanks to Cade who made a great evening, brilliant!!

My first (and last) visit to the White House was last Saturday night. Arriving before 10pm we were a little shocked at the 10 cover charge, and were knocked for six at the price of drinks in the place - more than a lot of clubs in central London. There is a noticable lack of space upstairs however it seems that is where the masses congregate, forcing a stand in a hallway, try and shout to be heard over the music kind of feel. A very pretentious crowd all vying for the crown Mr & Mrs Beautiful. Not worth a visit at half the price.

The drinks prices are a little scary (ie central London prices) but I feel this can be justified as this is one of the best places to drink & dance in Clapham or the surrounding area without compromsing on style, people or music. The music is always great, people are always smiley and chatty (even complete strangers!?) I think it's as good as a trip over the river but with a much cheaper cab fare home.

Went here on Sat night (9th Sep 2006) had a brilliant night, Djs (Bassmonkeys) were fantasic and the place was rocking. Great crowd - a real mixture of people, friendly staff (including the door people). Only issue was that the drinks were on the expensive side.

I went here for a friends birthday on Saturday night and was shocked and disappointed by how rude the staff were.

We were made to queue despite the bar being empty, then pay 7 pounds to enter. Then we were not allowed on to the roof terrace (the only place with any people at quarter past 10) because it was closing soon (it closes at 11pm). So we stood downstairs, bought a bottle of warm beer for 3.50 and decided to leave.

When I told the lady on the door that I was disappointed with the venue and unlikely to return, she smiled and waved sarcastically at us. I clearly wasn't "cool" enough to mingle with the pretentious Clapham crowd.

Good in summer upstairs, then downstairs is not bad if you want to perv at hot birds.

Atmosphere is pumping on a Friday night...otherwise steer clear my dear.

I went to the White House for a private party last night (a Wednesday), in the member's room upstairs. The decor was very nice upstairs and down, the staff seemed nice enough and the toilets were clean.

As much as I liked the place, I didn't like the prices. I don't mind a place not having draught lager, but to charge almost 4 for half a pint of beer in a bottle is a joke.

I've tried desperately hard to enjoy it here....and yet NO!!! Although everyone else seems to be trying DESPERATELY hard anyway!!! GO TO INIGO you've clearly strayed from the path!!

Can't believe people are still going to this place. Went back recently to give them another chance and wished I hadn't bothered. Service made me want to tear the barman's arm off and beat him with the soggy end. I'd rather drink turps and p*ss on a bonfire, than spend my cash in here to be honest.
burnsy - 30 Aug 2005 15:38
I had my birthday here recently in the member's lounge and even though I had booked well in advance and kept emailing my contact to make sure they had all the details, guest list etc, it was so unorganised and we basically got made to feel like we shouldn't have been in there.

It gets unbearably busy later on and they really do let anyone in including far too many Z list celebrities.

Expensive, rude staff, and full of very arrogant people!

10 entrance after waiting for 1 in 1 out? If getting your drink knocked over by a reject from blind date who is amazed at the growth of mainstream house music and thinks that living in South London is a reason for shouting 'Way Heeeeey' into your ear, then this is the kind of bar for you. If you are lucky you will even get the chance to see a minor celeb trying to beat the enormous que for the toliets, while waiting ages for a highly experienced bar-steward to mix you an overpriced 'double'.

On the plus side, the bar has a managed taxis service outside so you will be able to get a lift somewhere else quite easily.
mnky - 10 Apr 2005 22:29
went there on friday night, expecting funky house and a nice place to lounge, the music was awful, the drinks too expensive, stayed for two drinks and went to inigo bar instead

Last sunday (from 1pm) roof terrace was open, very relaxing drinking outside, excellent music (uplifting funky house) playing indoors. Was having an amazing time - at first. What put me off is the attitude of the bouncers. The upstairs bar closed while I went to the toilet, and they would _not_ let me back in just to pick up my bag, they said I must go downstairs and get a stamp (?!), or wait until everyone was out. Really really annoying. Better treatment of the clientele required for a supposedly classy venue.
G H - 16 Aug 2004 12:44
the whole point of it is that you're not meant to be drinking beer. it's actually pretty relaxing, has a two-for-one cocktail policy on friday before 7.30pm and has loads of seating round the back. the music is just as it should be, goldfrapp, groove armada etc.
Laurence - 4 Mar 2004 18:06
Awful: overpriced, no seating in the bar, unprofessional and rude staff and a poor selction of drinks (despite a lengthy cocktail menu). Avoid this place like the plague unless you enjoy paying over 10 for 3 beers, standing up all night, and listening to cr*p music.
