Alas now closed, boarded up and up for sale by Wadsworth (the owners)

Just had a lovely couple of days here. The landlord and his wife are very friendly, they let us park our motor home behind the pub. Views are great, beer is good, food is excellent. It's not cheap but it's value for money. Sunday was a lovely roast dinner and a pint of real ale by a log fire, happiness.

We like to pop in here for their thurs night steak nights. However last thurs I phoned the pub to make sure they were still doing the offer ( as there was nothing on the board outside) The landlord said yes, they were still doing them, and no, we didnt need to book a table.

On turning up there he off handedly said the price had gone up. No mention of this on the phone. There were also other people turning up and he was telling them the same, even tho as one pointed ouy, in the local paper it was still advertised at the old price.

An increase of 25% is poor, considering the wine offered is only a fiver in the local shop. Won't bother going again as beer is pricey but not good :-(

Not a place to visit if you dislike Wadworth`s beer. Friendly welcome, reasonably-priced pub style food. Decor remains a little old-fashioned. Garden looked well-kept with plenty of tables. Worth a visit.

Popped in here today for the first time in a few months. Much improved, I must say! Nice pint of 6X. Steak baguettes better than any I've had anywhere else. Good service from the manager and the chefs. What more could one want?

Me and her visited early evening on Saturday the 16th August for ale and food. Recently tastefully and sympathetically refurbished, and now a Wadworth's managed house (so only Wadworth's brews). I had a Henry's IPA (good), and a 6X (better). Both ales a little cool for me (not smoothflow cool), as I'm a warm beer man, but surprising, as I'd expect a warmer pint seeing as there were only a few in at the time. Both of us had rump steaks (16oz rare & 8oz medium) which were spot on. The pub was filling up with drinkers and diners when we left at about half seven. I want go back, soon.

I thought this place was closed for refurbishment.

predominantly a sedate eating house, especially busy therefore on Sunday lunch with a more elderly clientele...so not a rowdy place then.

average Butcombe Bitter, not a hugely attractive selection of others.....
