I've heard that interest is being expressed in the place at the moment so it may open again in the near future. "No one cried"? Yes, they did. But there were all too few of them, as there were all too few people going there. Some of the nearby pubs, quite honestly, aren't all that, yet they keep trading somehow.
|
Now closed and boarded. Please flag as such. Apparently it can't be knocked down as it's listed. No-one cried when it closed as several other pubs (Honest Cabbage, Cricketers, Duke of Bucks, Albion) within 5 mins walking distance.
|
Now closed down. Future uncertain.

A cut above the average for local pubs, this place has good and friendly atmosphere and an interesting and comfortable (though by no means traditional) interior. A large garden out the back for smoking in. Stays open later on Friday nights (karaoke every second week). Worth a try.

Up there with the Grove for nice pubs in the area (though do clean up the dogs mess bearing in mind little kids go in there)

I like this place. It's not too busy, it's got a few ales, the food is excellent and it's got a pub dog. Depends what you're after in a pub, but this ticks the boxes for me. It's also got a large outside (undercover and sheltered) area for anyone who now needs to sit outside for a smoke.

Foun this great pub by chance. Not doing food yet but saw the new menu. Think if you look below the surface you will see a young couple struggling to run new business and bring up 3 kids. Give them a chance. Found them friendly and warm. When asked about their one bitter the response was satisfactory. As any true ale drinker knows the barrel should only be on for 3 days. They simply don't have the volume for a range a bitters and would rather have one quality beer then a selection of rubbish. Yes the staff do need a kick up the proverbial but if the last few weeks are anything to go by then this will be dealt with sooner rather then later so do give them a chance!

Oh dear... looks like I spoke too soon. I fear the Marlborough is already living on borrowed time. What looked so promising 3 months ago has rapidly gone downhill. Last couple of times I've been in the staff have frankly been pretty hopeless. Friendly enough, but seemingly unable to fulfill simple simple orders for beer or coffee without some sort of problem or a ridiculous wait (despite the fact there are no other customers!). They need to get their act together to save what could be a really decent business and a good local pub. What happened to the selection of ales, decent food menu and having live music? Now they only have one ale, just Sunday roasts (no veggie option) and the staff entertain themselves with karaoke on a Friday night.

Live jazz? Badger ales? Despite appearances, avoid!!

If it was 'just like any pub in Fairfield' it would sell Greene King IPA and possibly Courage Best. The Marlborough (that's its name, not 'M') breaks the local GK monopoly and sells Badger beers. Now whether you like those or not is up to you, but I say give the Marlborough a chance.

This is a quality pub, the new landlords have changed the name to The Malborough, but the main changes are inside: good beer, good food, good service and best of all a comfortable and quality atmosphere. Well done and keep up the great work.

Big improvements here. Under new management now and a totally different pub. No more scenes from 'Booze-Britain' outside of a Friday night, no fruit machine and although there is still a big screen, its rarely used. Good selection of drinks (including 3 real ales) and a decent roast on Sundays. Nice atmosphere last time I went in: chilled out music and a mixed of couples and small groups having a quiet pint. Decor is quirky but comfortable. The new manager says he is hoping to have live jazz on some nights.

this pub has changed names again . it is now called the "marlborough" or as signed outside " M ". POSH LOOKING INSIDE

Has now reopened as the Marlborough, decor is sort of colonial (and more comfortable than the Canbury Arms for a start), only one ale on at present (Badger) but there are three pumps so this may bode well for the future.
