Great Fullers pub, the HSB was spot on!! Nice décor but the carpark is a bit of a nightmare. Nice building in a very nice location. 8/10 from me!!

Took the family here last week. It used to be a great value for money and top tucker. Not so any more.
The portions have become miniscule and the prices sky high. A one inch by one inch piece of haloumi cheese in a haloumi cheese salad starter - come on!!! (5.95 i think)
It's such a shame as it's a lovely pub, good beer and reasonable staff but I won't be back for food any time soon.

Once upon a time this pub was always busy in the evening and attracted both drinkers and diners. There was often a wait for a table and you felt lucky to find a parking space.

The new owners have tried to take it up-market and it has become another pub trying to serve restaurant food at restaurant prices. The staff, pleasant but a tad pushy, appear to have been trained to upsell and we were personally recommended the special costing 25.95! (Might have been 26.95). We settled for something cheaper, but the food portions were not generous .

Nowadays the pub and car park is much less busy.....Nuff said!

Had a pint of HSB and some carrot and coriander soup at lunchtime. Prices were most reasonable for both and the quality was very good. Staff were most helpful. Will return sometime later to sample the food menu.

Went on a mid week unchtime and found staff helpful and friendly if a little vacant. Ale was in good condition but a little pricey as was the food which was a bit dear but was very nice - none of the problems that charlie encountered.

This used to be the best pub in the area but the quality of food has gone down and down. The beer and wine are good but at London prices. It is comfortable and the garden is great. The menu looks good but the delivery is appalling. My gnocchi had been re-heated by frying with the mushrooms! My wife's buffalo burger was overcooked to tastelessness, they refuse to cook 'rare' orders due to 'health and safety' excuses. I will still drink there but I would rather eat from the fish and chip shop in Netley Marsh or the excellent indian takeaway in Totton.

i have to agree with Kath, TBF is a pig pen and this pub is head and sholders above its local rivals just a shame i have to rely on lifts if i want to sample more than one pint or this would be a great local

Myself, my sister & two small kids on a short break in the New Forest, staying at a local B & B & needing somewhere to eat - Tried the Bold Forester Beaulieu Road & found it to be incredibly disappointing (ie a sh*th*le)
We found the Pilgrim to have good ales on tap, an excellent & accessible menu ie not too poncy, but very delicious with good local produce. We were able to get 4 excellent meals served to us within about 20 mins (we were pretty early) & the whole lot cost us less then 40. I haven't any problem with that at all!
Staff were responsive & courteous & place is clearly popular as it filled right up whilst we were there. As an aside - the decor & ambience is nice & upholstery all recently redone & the toilets are also pretty posh too.

32 of us last night, after the run. All drinking, some a few drinks some only one, but good business on a Monday for any pub. Me and my buddy had 3 pints each of HSB for instance and our partners had 3 of various stuff. So why when one of the crowd ordered 3 bowls of chips for us all to share it cost 20 *****quid? Yes they were big bowls and nice chips but come on guys. Rip off, spoilt the taste of the evening. Downrated to 5 because of this.

I have to agree with previous comment but did visit over the half term break and found it was being sold and everything has turned around grumpy old staff gone new owners. No longer a chore for staff to have customers in the pub. new management are very nice.

I visited this establishment on Sunday 28 January 2007 with my wife, daughter, son-in-law and 4 year old granddaughter. The pub was not busy and so queried why the food had taken well over an hour. The staff had forgotten to put the order through and promised to do so immediately ahead of any queue. The meals duly arrived - one setting short. this eventually arrived another 10 minutes later. There was no apology, in fact the management seemed totally unphased by the problems we had. We did eventually receive complimentary sweets, but not until after complaining about our treatment. To be fair, the food was plentiful and very tasty, although I would challenge the chef over the inclusion of Stilton cheese in the Stilton and leek pie - it was more like a cheese sauce!! The staff did not seem to be very happy either - not surprising from the way we saw them treated by the duty management (or were they the owners?)

My regular pub (well twice a week)
Usually 3 x beers on hand pumps. Bass, Courage Best and Courage Directors.

House wine is okay, well the Aussie Shiraz usually is the French stuff is often insipid muck.

Very friendly staff, beautiful gardens, large car park, very reasonably priced food.

Menu is good, English fayre.

Gets busy on Fridays and Sundays and all the time in the summer.
